The Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom. The Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom. In Sanskrit: Prajñāvardhanī nāma dhāraṇī. In Tibetan: ཤེས་རབ་སྐྱེད་པ་ཞེས་བྱ་བའི་གཟུངས། (Tibetan) The Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom. Homage to the All-Knowing! Thus have I heard. Once, the Bhagavan (Blessed One), the Bodhisattva named Endowed with Wisdom, was dwelling on the summit of Mount Sumeru. He was surrounded by all the sons of gods residing on Mount Sumeru, and he taught the Dharma before them. Then, a great Bodhisattva, a being with the form of a youth, joined his palms and requested the Bodhisattva Endowed with Wisdom and others: "O Bhagavan, for the sake of sentient beings who are dull in wisdom, weak in intellect, and whose minds are not subdued, please explain the Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom." The explanation: Hūṃ picu picu. (Tibetan) ཧཱུྃ་པི་ཙུ་པི་ཙུ། (Sanskrit Devanagari, Roman transliteration unknown) Hum, Picu, Picu. (Literal Chinese meaning) Prajñāvardhanī jvala jvala. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Prajñāvardhanī jvala jvala, Wisdom increasing, shine, shine) Medhāvardhanī. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Medhāvardhanī, Increasing intelligence) Dhirī dhirī. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Dhirī dhirī, Steadfast, steadfast) Buddhivardhanī svāhā. (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Buddhivardhanī svāhā, Increasing wisdom, may it be accomplished) Whoever holds, recites, inquires, or teaches this dhāraṇī, even if they hear only one syllable when they are young, at that time they will become very intelligent. If someone, for six months, recites this mantra seven times over a handful of grass roots every day, and drinks it at sunrise, they will memorize a thousand verses. If they drink it once, they will memorize five hundred verses, and their wisdom will increase day by day. Just by reciting it every day, they will become good at remembering and their minds will be subdued. The Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom is complete. The Indian Abbot Jñānagarbha and the translator Bande Klu'i Wangpo translated it. The Indian Abbot Vidyākarasimha and the reviser, the translator Bande Devacandra, revised and finalized it. The Dhāraṇī for Increasing Wisdom.
