At one time, the Blessed One, while traveling through the country of Magadha, went to the Mango Grove. Having arrived, he resided in the cave of the Lord of the Mountain of the Mango Grove. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, went to where the Blessed One was, prostrated with his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, the Asuras are very harmful. Blessed One, the Asuras have long been my adversaries. Therefore, I beseech the Blessed One to teach me the Dharma. Having thus beseeched, the Blessed One said to the Lord of the Gods, Indra: Lord of the Gods, you should uphold the knowledge-mantra that bestows fearlessness to all, which accomplishes all purposes, pacifies all fears, pacifies all diseases, destroys all poisons, renders all weapons rigid, renders rigid all footless, two-footed, and four-footed beings, destroys all enemies, destroys gods, garudas, putanas, rakshasas, those who cause forgetfulness, those who cause madness, Brahmin demons, bhutas, corpses, bird demons, foul-smelling ghosts, night demons, oppressive demons, oppressors, demons of forgetfulness, celestial demons, naga demons, yaksha demons, gandharva demons, kimnara demons, heretical demons, and matrikas. It destroys those who steal radiance, those who eat garlands as food, those who eat incense as food, those who eat flowers as food, those who eat fumigation as food, those who drink blood, those who drink pus, those who eat impure things, and those who drink urine.

If it is recited on armor, weapons will not penetrate, poison will not work, plagues will not work, one-day sickness will not work, two-day sickness will not work, three-day sickness will not work, four-day sickness will not work, fire will not work, secret mantras will not work, corpses will not work, poison will not work, disease will not work. One will not die by drowning. This knowledge-mantra and secret mantra, and all combined practices, accomplish all things that have not been accomplished through combined practices. Things that have been accomplished through combined practices cannot be harmed by others. It liberates from the bonds of others. It cuts off the knowledge-mantras of others.
