Chapter Twenty-nine: The Brahmin Woman's Happiness Chapter Twenty-nine: The Brahmin Woman's Happiness Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One (Bhagavān, Bhagavān, The fortunate one) was dwelling in the Bamboo Grove of Kalandaka in Rajagriha, together with a countless number of monks. At that time, in that country, there was a Brahmin who was extremely poor and destitute, possessing nothing. The Brahmin, being extremely impoverished, asked everyone how he could become wealthy in this life. Someone said to him, "Do you not know? The one called the Buddha, the Blessed One, has now come into the world and is working for the benefit of all sentient beings. His close attendants, the great Kashyapa, the great Katyayana, Shariputra, and the irreversible ones, also constantly work for the benefit of the poor and destitute. If you offer food to these noble ones with a faithful heart, they will grant you whatever you desire in this very life." At that time, the Brahmin, hearing what that person said, was overjoyed. He wandered around begging and working for hire, and accumulated a small amount of wealth. He returned home and prepared food, invited the noble Sangha, and offered them a meal, hoping to benefit this world. At that time, the wife of that Brahmin, named Happiness, offered a meal to the Sangha and received the one-day and one-night precepts. At that time, King Light King went out on a tour. On the way back, he saw a prisoner who had committed a crime, tied to a tree on the side of the road. The prisoner saw the king passing by and cried, begging for some food. The king promised to give it and returned to the palace. Due to forgetfulness, he remembered giving food to the prisoner around midnight that night. So he decided to send food, but no one in the palace dared to go, because sending food in the middle of the night, the road was filled with the terror of ghosts and rakshasas, and no one could risk their lives to go. At that time, the king remembered the suffering and hunger of that person, and felt great compassion for him. He said, "Who in my country can send food to that prisoner? I will give him a thousand gold coins."

Even trying to move was impossible. At that time, the wife of that Brahmin, a woman named "Delight," heard that anyone in the world who observes the eight precepts for one day and one night will not be harassed by demons and ghosts, and that all demons will be unable to harm them. She thought, "I should go to the place where the king sent me," and so she went. Then, the king said to Delight, "Take these foods and give them to a certain person imprisoned in a certain place, and I will give you a thousand gold coins." So he made a vow. After that, Delight, according to the king's command, took the food, remembering the precepts, and set out on the road, walking and walking, until outside the city she met the Rakshasa woman Lamba. At that time, that Rakshasa woman had just given birth to five hundred children and was suffering from hunger and thirst. Seeing Delight coming, she intended to eat her. At that time, because Delight was a laywoman who kept the precepts, and the precepts had not diminished, the Rakshasa woman saw her and became afraid, saying, "Laywoman, please give me a little of the food you are carrying." The laywoman also gave her a little, and although it was little, due to the power of the laywoman, the food became abundant, and the Rakshasa woman and her children were very full. After that, the Rakshasa woman asked the laywoman, "What is your name?" She replied, "My name is Delight." "Oh, since you saved us from starvation, where I live there is a full pot of gold, take it with you on the way back. If you go forward, my sister Alamba is also on the road, and if you meet her, please greet her for me, saying, 'Are you well? I also gave birth to five hundred children safely.'" After that, the laywoman set out on the road, and before long she met Alamba. She conveyed her sister's greetings to Alamba and told her about giving birth to five hundred children safely. Alamba was very happy and said to the laywoman, "It is very good that you brought my sister's greetings and good news. Where I live there is also a pot of gold, take it with you on the way back. One of my brothers is also on the road, and if you meet him, please greet him for us sisters and tell him about the birth of five hundred children." Having said this, she left. After a long time
