The Sutra on the Four Noble Truths The Sutra on the Four Noble Truths In Sanskrit: Arya catuh satya sutra. In Tibetan: འཕགས་པ་བདེན་པ་བཞིའི་མདོ། (The Sutra on the Four Noble Truths). Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. Once, the Blessed One was dwelling near the city of Mrgadvipa, in the middle ground between Rajagrha and the royal residence of the luminous staff, near nightfall, together with a great community of monks. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: Monks, it is only because I and you have not known, have not seen, have not comprehended, have not individually realized these four noble truths that we have run along this long path and transmigrated in samsara. What are these four? It is only because I and you have not known, have not seen, have not comprehended, have not individually realized the noble truth of suffering that we have run along this long path and transmigrated in samsara. It is only because I and you have not known, have not seen, have not comprehended, have not individually realized the noble truth of the origin of suffering that we have run along this long path and transmigrated in samsara. It is only because I and you have not known, have not seen, have not comprehended, have not individually realized the noble truth of the cessation of suffering that we have run along this long path and transmigrated in samsara. It is only because I and you have not known, have not seen, have not comprehended, have not individually realized the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering that we have run along this long path and transmigrated in samsara. Monks, I have realized and individually realized the noble truth of suffering, and having cut off the craving for existence, the birth of samsara is exhausted, and now there is no other existence. I have realized and individually realized the noble truth of the origin of suffering, and having cut off that craving for existence, the birth of samsara is exhausted, and now there is no other existence. Thus having spoken, the Sugata, having spoken thus, the Teacher further spoke thus: We and you alone, not having seen the noble four truths as they are, have transmigrated in the long path. Having seen those truths, having cut off the craving for existence, since the cycle of birth is exhausted, now there is no other existence. Thus spoke the Blessed One, and those monks rejoiced, and greatly praised what the Blessed One had said. The Noble Four Truths Sutra is complete. The Noble Four Truths Sutra.
