Chapter Six: The Chapter on the Path to Enlightenment. Chapter Six: The Chapter on the Path to Enlightenment. Shantimati, therefore, Bodhisattvas, great beings who desire to fully awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, should follow and learn from those great-minded beings. On the path to enlightenment, which should not be taken lightly, one should only diligently practice. What is the path to enlightenment? It is as follows: by generating a mind that follows loving-kindness, having no anger towards all sentient beings; being diligent in the perfections; following the four means of gathering; cultivating the four Brahma-viharas; being diligent in the aspects of enlightenment; fully purifying and perfecting the superknowledges; and the accumulation of all virtuous dharmas accomplished through skillful means, and so forth. This is called the path to enlightenment. Shantimati, furthermore, the path to enlightenment is as follows: faith, thought, completely pure superior intention, uprightness, absence of deceit, expansiveness, absence of obstruction, equality, equanimity, fearlessness, and non-commission of any evil. That path is enriched by the perfection of generosity. That path leads to happiness through the perfection of discipline. That path is free from harm through the perfection of patience. That path is without interruption through the perfection of diligence. That path is undisturbed through the perfection of meditation. That path is well understood through the perfection of wisdom. That path follows the understanding of arising through great love. That path is irreversible through great compassion. That path brings supreme joy through great joy. That path follows great compassion through great equanimity. That path is free from attachment to desire, harmful thoughts, and thoughts of harm, like being without stumps and thorns. That path leads to happiness by being free from jealousy. That path is free from form, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

Therefore, it is free from wrong views. This path, through excellent examination of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, is free from external opponents. This path is free from all afflictions, thus destroying the Maras and external opponents. This path is free from the mental activity of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, thus leading to a great mind. This path is the one traveled by the Buddhas, Arhats, and Perfectly Awakened Ones of the past. This path is in accordance with the preciousness of all-knowingness, thus accomplishing great treasure. This path is always clear due to the light of stainless wisdom. This path is well-grasped by virtuous friends, thus demonstrating virtue. This path has no attachment or anger, thus having no high or low. This path has no harmful thoughts, jealousy, or anger, thus being separate from defilements. This path is free from all non-virtuous dharmas, thus going to happy realms. This path goes to the end of Nirvana, thus going to the side of happiness. Such is peaceful wisdom, that which has no scope for all the activities of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and that which is not a path, that kind of path is the Bodhisattva path. Abiding in this path, the Bodhisattva will manifestly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. The sixth chapter, the chapter on the path to enlightenment. Sixth.
