Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. Then, many gods, in the night, with lights possessing various colors, at one time illuminated Jeta's Grove with light, and arrived where the Blessed One was dwelling, and having arrived, prostrated to the Blessed One, and then sat on one side. Having sat on one side, those gods spoke many verses to the Blessed One. Gods and humans, many contemplated on auspiciousness, had doubts about auspiciousness, and requested the supreme auspiciousness to be spoken. The god of gods declared: That which completely destroys all sins, for the benefit of all beings in the world, I will tell you those auspicious things. One should not associate with children, one should associate with the wise, one should give a response of offering to offerings, this is the most supreme auspiciousness. With the merit done previously, dwelling in a suitable place, making the most supreme aspiration for oneself, this is the most supreme auspiciousness. Truth and handcraft, learning well with the practice of taming, language spoken in a beautiful way, this is the most supreme auspiciousness. Serving father and mother, taking care of sons and wives, not doing things that are not harmonious, this is the most supreme auspiciousness. Giving and practicing Dharma, taking care of relatives and friends, not doing things that are blameworthy, this is the most supreme auspiciousness. Speaking (ིས་པ་ན།): Whoever's mind does not waver, and can endure sorrow and displeasure, this is the supreme auspiciousness. All that has been said in this way, will conquer all, and will go to peace. These are the supreme auspiciousness for them. The Blessed One spoke thus, and the gods praised the words of the Blessed One. The Great Auspicious Sutra ends. By the merit of this, may I, until I attain Buddhahood, have the wisdom of the great physician, the enjoyment of radiant wealth, and the generosity to liberate all beings, in every lifetime.
