In Tibetan: The Sutra of Mahākāśyapa. Homage to the Three Jewels! Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Kalandaka Bamboo Grove in the Radiant Garden of Rajagriha. At that time, the venerable Mahākāśyapa was dwelling in a cave in Vaishali, afflicted by a severe illness and suffering greatly. Then, the Blessed One, in the evening, contemplated everything individually and remained. The Blessed One went to where the venerable Mahākāśyapa was, approached him, and sat down on the prepared seat. Having sat down, the Blessed One said to the venerable Mahākāśyapa: "Kāśyapa, how do you wish to eat? How do you experience suffering? How do you attain peace? It is not that you do not attain peace through the means of peace." Then, the venerable Mahākāśyapa replied: "Blessed One, I no longer crave food and drink. I am afflicted by a severe illness, whether there is peace or not, please teach me the means of peace. Please explain to me the seven branches of enlightenment. If I cultivate them extensively, I will attain clairvoyance, enlightenment, and nirvana." What are the seven? This mindfulness enlightenment factor. Kāśyapa, I say that this is the right enlightenment factor. If I cultivate it extensively, I will attain clairvoyance, enlightenment, and nirvana. Subsided, and has passed into nirvana. Furthermore, Kashyapa, I say that dhyana is a limb of perfect and complete enlightenment. If this is cultivated extensively, it will be directly realized, it will be awakened, and it will have passed into nirvana. Furthermore, Kashyapa, I say that equanimity is a limb of perfect and complete enlightenment. If this is cultivated extensively, it will be directly realized, it will be awakened, and it will have passed into nirvana. Kashyapa, these are the seven limbs of enlightenment that I have spoken of. If these are cultivated extensively, they will be directly realized, they will be awakened, and they will have passed into nirvana. One should train in the limbs of enlightenment spoken by the Blessed One, the Tathagata. The Blessed One spoke thus, and the venerable Maha Kashyapa greatly rejoiced in what the Blessed One had said. Immediately thereafter, the illness subsided, and the venerable Maha Kashyapa arose. The illness of the venerable Maha Kashyapa subsided. The Sutra of the Great Elder Kashyapa is complete. The Sutra of Maha Kashyapa.
