In Tibetan: The Noble Moon Essence Perfection of Wisdom Great Vehicle Sutra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in Rajagriha on Vulture Peak Mountain, together with immeasurable and countless assemblies of monks, and many Bodhisattvas. At that time, in that assembly, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Moon Essence arose from his seat and said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, how should Bodhisattvas train in the Perfection of Wisdom? After he said this, the Bhagavan replied: Moon Essence, whatever is the absence of inherent existence in all phenomena, that is the Perfection of Wisdom. For example, the circle of the moon, although without conceptualization, circles the four continents and completely dispels darkness. Similarly, the practice of a Bodhisattva Mahasattva in the Perfection of Wisdom, although without conceptualization, circles the four inversions with compassion and naturally eliminates afflictions, but this is because of non-conceptualization. Moon Essence asked: Bhagavan, how many kinds of Perfection of Wisdom do Bodhisattvas have? The Bhagavan replied: Son of good family, Bodhisattvas have two kinds of Perfection of Wisdom, namely, with outflows and without outflows. Son of good family, the wisdom with outflows is the conceptualization of grasping and apprehending in the stage of the ground of practice with aspiration. Abandoning these is the Perfection of Wisdom with outflows. Son of good family, the Perfection of Wisdom without outflows is the non-conceptual wisdom of the aspect of the path of seeing, because that wisdom is free from all conceptualization, it is non-conceptual. The Perfection of Wisdom does not abide on either shore, neither this shore nor the other shore. Wisdom, from form to all-knowingness, is without inherent existence; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom should be understood as without inherent existence. Phenomena such as form are not perceived in the three times, and should be understood as neither bound nor liberated. Son of good family, all phenomena are equality itself; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is equality itself. All phenomena are non-cessation itself; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is non-cessation. All phenomena are without characteristics; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is without characteristics. All phenomena are unborn; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is unborn. All phenomena are without severance; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is without severance. All phenomena are without coming; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is without coming. All phenomena are without going; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is without going. All phenomena are impermanent; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is impermanent. All phenomena are without difference; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is without difference. All phenomena are of one meaning; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is of one meaning. All phenomena are of the nature of non-things; therefore, the Perfection of Wisdom is of the nature of non-things. In short, all that transcends characteristics, inherent existence, and nature is the Perfection of Wisdom. Therefore, this is the mantra of the Perfection of Wisdom: Tadyatha. Om Prajñe Prajñe Maha Prajñe Chandra Prajñe Sarva Shasa Kari Svaha. All phenomena arise from causes; this is the conventional truth. Without inherent existence and without elaboration; this is the sphere of activity of the ultimate truth. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, the Bodhisattva Moon Essence, and the entire retinue, including gods, humans, asuras, gandharvas, and the world rejoiced and praised the Bhagavan's words. The Noble Moon Essence Perfection of Wisdom Great Vehicle Sutra is complete.
