The Sixty-seventh Chapter: The Chapter on Ethics. The Sixty-seventh Chapter: The Chapter on Ethics. Furthermore, Subhuti, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Ethics, from the moment of generating the initial thought, he guards that ethics with mindfulness that is endowed with the knowledge of all aspects, so that it is not obscured by the mind of desire, hatred, delusion, latent tendencies, pervasive activities, or any unwholesome root dharmas that obstruct Bodhi, such as miserliness, immoral conduct, a disturbed mind, a lazy mind, an inferior mind, a confused mind, a mind of perverse wisdom, pride, contempt, excessive pride, the pride of 'I am,' or the mind of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer. Why is that? Because he knows that all dharmas are empty of their own nature, and he sees that all dharmas are unborn, unaccomplished, and unmanifest. He enters into the dharmic nature of dharmas, because he enters into the nature of all dharmas as powerless to act and without manifest activity. Therefore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who possesses that skillful means will increase through virtuous roots. When he increases through virtuous roots, he practices the Perfection of Ethics. When he practices the Perfection of Ethics, he fully matures sentient beings and also fully purifies the Buddha-field. He does not hope for the fruit of ethics, which is the full enjoyment of the fruit of ethics in samsara, but rather practices the Perfection of Ethics in order to gather sentient beings, not harm sentient beings, and desire to benefit sentient beings. From the Eighty Thousand Verses of the Perfection of Wisdom, this is called the Chapter on Ethics, the Sixty-seventh Chapter is complete.
