Explanation of the Four Parajikas. Explanation of the Four Parajikas. Summary verse: Unchaste conduct and theft, killing a person should not be done, lying and the rest, these four are spoken of here. Venerable ones, these four Parajika Dharmas come from reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra every half month. Furthermore, if a Bhikshu, being in common training with other Bhikshus, without abandoning the training, without destroying the training, engages in unchaste conduct, that is, relies on the Dharma arising from sexual intercourse, even with a being born in an animal realm, that Bhikshu is defeated and should not dwell together. Furthermore, if a Bhikshu in another village or in a forest dwelling takes what is not given, which is counted as theft, if that which is not given is taken, and the king or a great minister seizes him, saying, "Hey, man, you are a thief, a child, a fool, a stealer." Whether they kill, bind, or banish him, if that Bhikshu takes what is not given in this way, that Bhikshu is also defeated and should not dwell together. Furthermore, if a Bhikshu intentionally takes the life of a human being or one resembling a human being with his own hand, or gives him a weapon, or seeks someone to wield a weapon for him, or causes him to die, or praises his death, saying, "Hey, man, what is the use of living a sinful life, impure and evil? Hey, man, death is better than life." Thus, according to the desires of his mind and the thoughts of his mind, he causes him to die through many different means, or praises his death, and if he dies because of that action, that Bhikshu is also defeated and should not dwell together. Furthermore, if a Bhikshu, without knowing or fully knowing, without having the superior human qualities, the noble and the distinct, without attaining realization, without knowing, seeing, or experiencing, claims, "I know this Dharma, I see this Dharma." Thus, because of that event, desiring purification, at another time, whether asked or not asked, he says, "Venerable ones, I said I knew what I did not know, I said I saw what I did not see."

Gsob. Gsog. If one says he has lied, unless it is out of manifest pride, then that bhikshu has also failed and should not reside here. O you who have life, I have finished explaining these four defeatable dharmas. If a bhikshu commits any one of these transgressions, then as it was in the beginning, so it will be later, he will be defeated and should not reside or partake with the bhikshus. To this, I will ask you who have life: Are you completely pure in this? Are you completely pure in this? I will ask two or three times. If you who have life are completely pure in this, then like this, because nothing is said, it is understood as such. The four defeatable dharmas have been explained.
