In the language of India: Prajñāvardhanī nāma dhāraṇī. In the language of Tibet: The Dhāraṇī Called "Increasing Wisdom". Homage to the All-Knowing One! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Bhagavan Bodhisattva named Endowed with Intelligence was dwelling on the summit of Mount Sumeru. All the sons of the gods residing on Mount Sumeru surrounded him and sat before him, and he was teaching the Dharma. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva, in the form of a youth, joined his palms and requested the Bodhisattva Endowed with Intelligence: "Bhagavan, for the sake of sentient beings who are dull-witted, of weak intelligence, and whose minds are not pliable, I request you to explain the dhāraṇī called 'Increasing Wisdom'." Explanation: Hūṃ picu picu prajñāvardhani. Jvala jvala medhāvardhani. Dhiri dhiri. Buddhi vardhani svāhā. Whoever holds this dhāraṇī, recites it, asks about it, or causes others to ask about it, even if they only hear a single syllable when they are young, at that time they will have great wisdom. If someone, for six months, recites this mantra seven times over a handful of roots every day, and drinks it at sunrise, they will memorize a thousand verses. If they drink it once, they will memorize five hundred verses, and their wisdom will increase day by day. In just one day, by merely reciting it, their memory will improve and their minds will become pliable. The Dhāraṇī Called "Increasing Wisdom" is complete.
