D909 @## ། །In Sanskrit: Ārya Avalokiteśvara Mātā Nāma Dhāraṇī. In Tibetan: The Dhāraṇī Called "Noble Avalokiteśvara's Mother". I prostrate to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the great city of Vaiśālī, surrounded and attended by a great assembly. There were five hundred monks, including the great Śrāvaka Śāriputra, and many Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas, including Maitreya, surrounded and attended. The Blessed One was seated on a prepared seat. In that assembly, a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva named Samantabhadra was gathered. He arose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, the great vidyā-mantra of the dhāraṇī called Avalokiteśvara's Mother, the basis of this secret mantra, has been previously spoken by the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, of the past, future, and present, and is now being spoken. Blessed One, when you became a Bodhisattva, seeking perfect enlightenment, it was previously spoken for the sake of subduing all sentient beings, and for the sake of the benefit and the Bodhisattva's benefit. For sons or daughters of the Bodhisattva vehicle lineage, it is the other shore, the mother, the refuge for those without refuge, the help for those without help, the protector for those without protectors, and it causes all sins to be exhausted. Merely hearing this dhāraṇī, all thoughts will be completely fulfilled, and all vidyā-mantras will also be accomplished." The Blessed One said: "Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva, I was previously a Bodhisattva, seeking perfect enlightenment, and beyond the worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, even further beyond, there is a world called Sukhāvatī, where the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha Amitābha is, and he still dwells and lives.

And also teach the Dharma in other places. In that same assembly, there was a Brahmin named Powerful Light, who had attained the third Bodhisattva ground. He proclaimed the dharani called the Mother of Avalokiteshvara. This great queen of vidya-mantras was proclaimed, spoken, and shown by hundreds of thousands of Brahmins and billions of sentient beings. As soon as all of them heard this dharani, they were completely liberated from all sins that cause downfall, and they would remember their past lives. I remember. Speak of that Bodhisattva Mahasattva. In the future, in all the afflicted realms of the world, the sins committed by sentient beings, the hundreds of thousands of sins of committing the five heinous crimes, will be exhausted, bringing benefit and happiness, and becoming the protector of the unprotected. I also grant permission and rejoice. The Blessed One said, "Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Samantabhadra spoke these roots of the secret mantra of the great vidya-mantra of the dharani called the Mother of Avalokiteshvara." འགྱུར་རོ། ། 若以不散乱之心念诵，则一月之间，圣观自在菩萨大无明自性显现，亦得见圣无量光佛。 将不退转于菩提。 亦将忆念前世，并能受持所闻。 无论生于何处，亦不离圣法。 将成大富饶。 世尊如是宣说后，菩萨摩诃萨普贤菩萨及诸菩萨，诸比丘及一切具足之眷属皆欢喜，对世尊所说深生赞叹。 《圣观自在菩萨母》陀罗尼圆满。 印度堪布吉那弥扎、达那希拉及校勘译师班德耶谢德翻译、校订，并经多次修订后最终确定。

It will transform. If recited with a mind free from distraction, within a month, the great ignorance of the noble Avalokiteśvara will manifest, and the noble Amitābha will also be seen. One will become irreversible from enlightenment. One will also remember past lives and retain what is heard. Wherever one is born, one will never be separated from the sacred Dharma. One will become greatly prosperous. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Samantabhadra and those Bodhisattvas, those monks, and all the assembled retinue rejoiced and praised the Bhagavan's words. The Dharani called "The Mother of the Noble Avalokiteśvara" is complete. Translated and revised by the Indian Abbot Jinamitra, Dānaśīla, and the reviser-translator Bande Yeshe De, and finalized after repeated revisions.
