The Crucial Instructions on Seeing the Great Seal The Crucial Instructions on Seeing the Great Seal The Crucial Instructions on Seeing the Great Seal reside herein. Namo Lokeshvaraye. Now, see the essence nakedly, like seeing the third-day moon. Realization increases upwards, and the essence remains unchanged. If following the four yogas, in accordance with the yoga of non-elaboration, there is no clinging whatsoever in this meditation. The object of observation and the observer are blended into one. Even if thoughts do not diminish, like snow falling into the ocean, thoughts arise as the essence of meditation. If not remembered, it is delusion; when remembered, it is the essence of meditation, arriving at the point of mere remembrance. Still, some highs and lows may appear. When high, it blends into all activities. During the day, it is mostly inseparable. Dreams are sometimes grasped, sometimes not. Occasionally, in leisure, one travels a little. During times of suffering, sickness, fear, and dread, it becomes particularly clear and stable. Sometimes, one grasps the clear light in dreams, appearing clearer and more stable than during the day. That too is grasped in leisure, or grasped until awakening, etc. The duration is uncertain and varied. If grasped seven times, the bardo is cut off. If sleep is mostly grasped, then at the time of death, one recognizes the clear light, thus attaining manifest enlightenment without the bardo. The arising of this much realization is the same as that of a bodhisattva who has attained the first ground, and the high and low of realization are said to be equal. Because skills and qualities are not yet perfected, one cannot display miraculous powers for the benefit of others, like a garuda chick inside an egg, even with six wings grown, it cannot fly. Just as it flies after the egg breaks, immediately upon separating from the flesh and blood body, one obtains one hundred and twelve qualities. That is what is meant by "one can discard the skull." The name "realized one" is also given to just this extent. Now, a few obstacles still need to be cleared. Carried away by the emptiness of non-elaboration, all outer and inner environments, beings, samsara, and nirvana are analyzed by the mind as empty. Merely having conviction in understanding, without doing good deeds and abandoning evil deeds, one may become a mere talker of emptiness. No matter how high the view, meticulous conduct is the heart's truth. Seeing the essence of non-elaboration is directly realizing the emptiness of one's own mind, understanding the meaning that is unspeakable, unthinkable, and inexpressible. Although one realizes the selflessness of the person, because one has not realized the selflessness of phenomena, one mixes with one's own mind.

Should be recited. Whatever appears to the eyes, blend the form with one's own mind. By placing it on practice, the appearance-emptiness great seal appears. The sound heard by the ears, blend it with one's own mind. By placing it on practice, the sound blends with one's own mind. The sound-emptiness great seal appears. Blend the sky with mind-essence. By placing it on practice, wherever the sky pervades, the mind also pervades. Wherever the mind pervades, the Dharmakaya also pervades. Just when such realization arises, for the deceased and the sick, entrust awareness to them, abide in practice, the benefit is great. This is the blending method of the Kagyu tradition. The minds of all the Buddhas, and the mind-streams of all six realms of beings, and the yogi's own awareness, inseparably blend and protect the essence. These three are inseparable essence, the essence is the same in emptiness, the same in the clarity of nature, the same in the unceasing arising of compassion. The view is that samsara and nirvana are inseparable. Just realizing these, one can melt the living and the dead. However, for all of these, there are understanding and experience, and the arising of realization, three each. If one thinks it is like that, if it is understanding, the benefit is small. When decorating and practicing on that basis, if one drowns in that, it is experience, that is just one-sided. When it arises naturally without fabrication, if one lets it pass in meditation, it is realization, very wonderful. Now there are times of relaxation, times of forgetting. There are times of high and low, clear and dim. Do not leave behind the thought of forgetting. Sometimes, although inseparable, that is the habit of experience, it cannot last. The way of abiding of the ground is understanding. Saying that there is no difference between distraction and non-distraction, that is dry understanding. The realization that there is no difference between distraction and non-distraction, that inseparable realization, is said to be the time of realization without practice. Appearance-emptiness deity generation stage and, the completion stage of protecting the essence, like the sky and the rainbow, inseparable, one does not exclude the other. Generation-completion union is yoga. The guru's mind and one's own mind, inseparable, realize as one. It is the devotion great seal. In the practice of emptiness view, compassion arises for beings who have not realized. Emptiness

It is the union of compassion. Sentient beings, the source of compassion, are also not established apart from one's own mind. It is compassion without an object. According to my own experience, Raga Asya wrote it immediately.
