The second place, explaining the faculties. The second place, explaining the faculties. Now, when explaining the second place, immediately after the previous one, the scriptures say, "Half of the Dharma and which, are explained as faculties within the twelve places." What are the numbers of faculties mentioned? What is the meaning? The number of faculties is stated in the sutra: "After the Brahmin nature has the power to listen, the Brahmin faculties are these twenty-two. What are the twenty-two? At the end of everything, add the sixth word and the word 'faculty,' namely, eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind, female, male, life, pleasure, pain, joy, displeasure, equanimity, faith, diligence, mindfulness, samadhi, wisdom, the faculty of making the unknown known, the faculty of knowing all, and the faculty of possessing all knowledge. These Brahmins are the twenty-two faculties, and these alone summarize all the faculties." Thus, twenty-two are mentioned. Its meaning is particularly independent, so when explaining it, it is necessary to determine the nature of the faculties, and incidentally, to explain in detail the arising of conditioned phenomena, there are two aspects. The second place, explaining the faculties.
