A Concise Offering of Incense to the Local Deity of Nechung A Concise Offering of Incense to the Local Deity of Nechung ༄༅། Herein lies a concise offering of incense to the local deity of Nechung. When offering incense to the local deity of Nechung, visualize oneself as a deity, bless the incense substances with ༀ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ༔ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओम् आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ āḥ hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om Ah Hum) three times, and with the sound of music, say this: Emaho! The place blessed by the compassionate intention of the noble protector of the three families, the island where the ocean of dakinis gathers, the glorious and auspicious Nechung mountain range, the protector of all land and treasure, the chief of the local deities, powerful and skilled. In ancient times, Vairochana and some of the Kagyu lamas, when giving commands and making vows, addressed you by the secret name Yudra Lhatse. In the midst of rainbows and thick white clouds, your body is white and clear like crystal, with one smiling face. Of your two hands, the right holds aloft a spear with a banner, and the left displays a precious treasure chest. You wear armor, a helmet, and a coat of mail. On your right waist is a tiger-skin quiver filled with a divine arrow, and on your left is a leopard-skin quiver with a beautifully decorated bow, and a sharp, flexible, and complete sword. Lightning flashes around your three retinues. Your majestic form strides with two feet upon a beautiful yellow horse with a saddle and cushion. It is adorned with turquoise reins, golden stirrups, and a conch-shell crest. Your consort is the queen Tso Men Dungkyong Gyalmo, her face golden, her smile radiant with light. She holds an arrow and a banner in her hands, and dances gracefully, adorned with many kinds of precious ornaments. Surrounded by siblings like Yungdrung Nyentse, servants, gods, nagas, nyen, demons, and mo goddesses, all dancing and swaying. You, together with your consort, children, and retinue, all without exception, please come to this place and sit upon this pleasing seat. At this pure and supreme place today, I, the yogi, with joy, respect, and pure mind, have gathered various incense substances to offer to the deities. The fragrant smoke of many sweet-smelling woods swirls like clouds. Satisfying food and drink, white and sweet, and the finest desirable offerings, enjoyments, and all necessities, visualized clearly through mantra, mudra, and samadhi, are transformed to fill the vast expanse of the sky. I offer them to all the local deities gathered here. Please accept them with loving kindness. In general, may the world be protected by the glory of happiness and well-being. May this needed place be free from decline.
