Explanation of the Three Bardos' Nature Condensed into Ground, Path, and Fruition Explanation of the Three Bardos' Nature Condensed into Ground, Path, and Fruition Secondly, specifically explaining the necessity of each period, this involves explaining how to introduce the subsequent three bardos for individuals heading towards the other shore, starting from the moment of death when the body and mind separate. This has two aspects: First, explaining the nature of these three bardos by condensing them into ground, path, and fruition. Second, elaborately explaining the individual identifications separately. Among these, the first point, condensing the nature of these three bardos into ground, path, and fruition, is divided into four: the object to be purified, the purifier, the act of purifying, and the result of purification. This is explained in an easy-to-understand manner, with three aspects: The object to be purified is the essence of primordial purity, the original state. The purifier is the defilement of mind, intellect, and the alaya consciousness. The act of purifying involves practicing the instructions of Trekchö (cutting through), so that in the bardo of dying, one recognizes the clear light of intrinsic purity. The result of purification is achieving Buddhahood in the Dharmakaya at the time of death. The object to be purified is the spontaneously present, externally clear, spontaneously present wisdom. The purifier is the defilement of dualistic grasping of appearance and awareness. The act of purifying involves practicing the instructions of Tögal (direct crossing), so that in the Dharmata Bardo, one recognizes the spontaneously present peaceful and wrathful self-appearances. The result of purification is achieving Buddhahood in the Sambhogakaya in the bardo. The object to be purified is the co-emergent, single-essence alaya. The purifier is the defilement of the fabricated ignorance, illusory appearances, and the Bardo of Existence. The act of purifying involves transforming one's intention into single-pointedness through turning back samsara. The result of purification is accomplishing the Nirmanakaya of rebirth, or being liberated in the realm of the Svabhavikakaya.
