Third, Definition. Third, Definition. The third is: What is to be determined here is that the sacred Dharma is that which takes merit, the path, and nirvana as its main objects of expression, and the scriptures as its means of expression. Its definition is that if one focuses on it, it becomes a method for sentient beings to eliminate obscurations. As it is said in the scriptures: "All sufferings and all obscurations, the sacred Dharma can eliminate." Classifying it, there are two types: the Dharma of realization and the Dharma of scripture. The Treasury says: "The Buddha's sacred Dharma is of two kinds, namely, the nature of scripture and realization." Therefore, the definition of the Dharma of realization is: Through what is one separated from desire? Through what does one become free from desire? What is free from desire? That which has the nature of the two truths is the Dharma. Freedom from desire itself is the truth of cessation, and is included in the truth of the path. This is how it is explained in the Ratnagotravibhāga. Among them, what is free from desire is the truth of cessation; through what one becomes free from desire is the truth of the path. Among the two truths, the definition of the truth of cessation is that by focusing on Suchness, the contaminated things cease there. In the Compendium, it says: "By focusing on Suchness, the contaminated things cease there, that is the definition of cessation." This is also the abandonment of the learners and non-learners, and the nirvana without remainder, and the Dharmakaya of the Buddha in the Mahayana tradition. The definition of the truth of the path is that uncontaminated wisdom and its retinue are the means to realize cessation. The Treasury says: "The truth of the uncontaminated path." Or, the Ratnagotravibhāga says: "The pure and clear antidote aspect itself." This is also the three uncontaminated paths of seeing, meditating, and non-learning. The truth of the Mahayana path is considered in the Ratnagotravibhāga to be the path of seeing and the path of meditation. The paths of accumulation and preparation are the retinue of the truth of the path. The definition of the Dharma of scripture is the expression that leads to the Dharma of realization. Among them are the habitual tendencies arising from proliferation, and the expressions arising from the common cause of the Dharmadhatu. The first is the various kinds of talk about horses and elephants, etc., because it is in accordance with samsara and Dharma, it is also called worldly expression. The second is the twelve branches of scripture, which is also the common cause of realizing the nature of Dharma, or it arises from the common cause of realizing the Dharmadhatu, therefore there

It is said, "The supreme of meaning corresponding to the cause," appears in the Madhyāntavibhāga. In the Artha-vyākhyā, it says, "Having become corresponding to the cause of the Dharmadhātu." Paṇḍita Sūnyaśrī said, "All dharmas have the realization of emptiness as their root. Just as three birds, small, medium, and large, fly in the sky, the three bodhis are attained by realizing the selflessness of the person, the selflessness of what is grasped, and both selflessnesses." Because it is in accordance with Nirvāṇa, it is called a transcendental expression. As it is said in the Nirvāṇa Sutra, "Four great rivers flow into the ocean, flowing and converging. Likewise, all dharmas flow into Nirvāṇa, flowing and converging." Third, characteristics.
