Common transference. Common transference. Transference with a peaceful mind. Third, the subsequent guidance has four parts: the instructions on transference, the instructions on the bardo, the secret instructions, and the instructions on practice. First, the instructions on transference have two aspects: common transference and uncommon transference. First, common transference has five aspects: transference with a peaceful mind, transference with the ten perceptions, transference with the union deity, transference with the blessing of the lama, and transference with the recollection of the Three Jewels. First, transference with a peaceful mind is: at the time of death, it is important that there is nothing that causes attachment or hatred, whether sentient or insentient, that the eyes can see or the ears can hear. If one dies in a state of mind where attachment and hatred are pacified, one will be reborn as a god. In the "Stainless Light Sutra," it says: Here, at the time of death, due to the power of virtuous deeds, one will transform into a peaceful mind, which is the nature of the qualities of courage. If that mind arises, at the end of death, one will be reborn as a god. This is the meaning of what was said. Transference with the ten perceptions. Second, transference with the ten perceptions is: In the "Sutra on Establishing the Ten Perceptions," the Blessed One said: Monks, at the time of death, you should manifest the ten perceptions of a monk. What are the ten? The perception of not being attached to this life, the perception of loving-kindness towards all sentient beings, the perception of abandoning all grudges, the perception of confessing all broken vows, the perception of restoring all vows, the perception of having a light view of great sins committed, the perception of having a great view of small roots of virtue, the perception of longing for the next world, the perception of the impermanence of all compounded things, the perception of the selflessness of all dharmas, and the manifestation of the perception of peace in nirvana. This is the meaning of what was said. Transference with the union deity. Transference with the union deity is: At the time of death, abandoning attachment and hatred towards all sentient and insentient things, one should instantly remember and perfect the deity, without being distracted by anything else, and remain with devotion and focused intention on that deity.

Guru Transference. The blessed Guru Transference is: at the time of death, abandoning attachment and aversion to all sentient and non-sentient beings, whichever is convenient, the common and uncommon Guru Yoga, should be instantly remembered and perfected. One should remain in a state of single-pointed devotion to that Guru. From the Six Dharmas of Niguma, the middle and the lowest should abandon attachment and aversion, and whatever is the object of devotion, with single-pointed focus, should be projected upwards and adorned with aspiration prayers. This is the meaning of what was said. Recollection of the Deity Transference. The fifth, Recollection of the Deity Transference is: at the time of death, abandoning attachment and hatred to all sentient and non-sentient beings such as the body and possessions of this life, entrusting the mind with complete trust to the Deity, remaining in a state of single-pointed devotion to that Deity, one should remain with single-pointed aspiration towards whichever pure realm one desires, such as Sukhavati. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: As long as four men carry it, it becomes more and more unstable. Before that, go to the forest, without friends or enemies, alone in a solitary place, playing as if already dead, even if dead, there is no sorrow. Those who are nearby will not cause sorrow or harm, therefore, the recollection of the Buddha, etc., will not be disturbed by anyone. This is the meaning of what was said. Therefore, it is very important that at the bedside of the dying, besides taking refuge, clarifying these kinds of objects of focus, and reciting the true scriptures of the Buddha's teachings, there is no suffering, crying, and disturbance. In the case of all five transferences, one should project and direct one's consciousness with strong aspiration and devotion towards whichever pure realm one desires, such as the western Sukhavati, or the eastern Abhirati, or the northern Shambhala, and pray to be born there. When I am about to die, may all obscurations be completely purified, may I see Amitabha Buddha directly, and may I go to the realm of Sukhavati. Having gone there, may all these aspirations be completely fulfilled. May I completely fulfill all of these, and may I benefit sentient beings as long as the world exists. Born from the extremely beautiful place. May I also obtain there the prophecy directly from the Victorious One, Limitless Light. This is the meaning of what was said.
