Chapter Eight: Practicing the Five Stages Chapter Eight: Practicing the Five Stages If there is no suffering, there is no renunciation. If there is no renunciation, there is no happiness. If you cling to happiness, it is even worse. In the smallest of the small, the great demon enters. Undigested medicine is also like poison. What is its root? The root is ignorance. What is its function? It is the five poisonous emotions. Who is its executor? It is attachment and stinginess that take responsibility. What is its base? Ignorance sleeps in the base. Ignorance towards the qualities of the noble ones, and ignorance towards the afflictions. It causes the activities of the four afflictions to increase. What are its henchmen? They are the ten non-virtuous actions. From beginningless time, gathering and gathering, it causes suffering to sentient beings. However, there is no suffering and no renunciation. There is neither happiness nor suffering. There is no Buddha and no sentient beings. There is no gathering or assembly. There is no beginning, middle, or end. There is no action or deed. There is no attainment or non-attainment of fruit. Everything is great bliss. What is its root? It is the pure self-awareness of the alaya. What is its creator? It is the five wisdoms. Who is its executor? It is taken by non-attachment and without arrogance. What is its base? The wisdom of the Dharmadhatu sleeps in the base. All qualities are clearly present within oneself. Everything does not go beyond wisdom itself. It causes the activities of the four wisdoms to increase. What are its henchmen? They are the ten virtuous actions. From beginningless time, these gathering and gathering, place everything in the bliss of the Buddha. If you know these, that is great wisdom. For those who do not know, it should be clearly shown. Do not be arrogant about the wealth of others, but be greedy and stingy with your own wealth. Driven by anger, pride, and jealousy, riding a good horse, wearing good clothes, arrogantly thinking who is above me, but ending up hungry and thirsty, poor and destitute, tired and weary, carrying a heavy burden, walking with heavy steps. Tormented by enemies, with little power, experiencing such suffering. Look at that! Think about that! One should truly practice the Dharma. Experiencing such suffering

That the time is happy is the result of not having done virtuous deeds. Chapter Seven, which clearly sees cause and effect. From the Glorious Guhyasamaja Tantra: It is said that the wind performs all actions. This is the mount of consciousness. It possesses the nature of five and has ten names. The meaning of this is: "Performs all actions" means that all actions of samsara and nirvana, and of body, speech, and mind, are performed by the wind. "The mount of consciousness" means that the mount of the mind is the wind. "Possesses the nature of five" means the five root winds and the five branch winds. To that end, learning the Vajra recitation: The suchness of the wind is the three states of going, coming, and abiding. The suchness of the three states of going, coming, and abiding is the three syllables. The suchness of the three syllables is Āḥ (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: 阿). The suchness of Āḥ is unborn. Then, first, when the wind enters from the outside, visualize the white Oṃ (Tibetan: ཨོཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओम्, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: 嗡) entering the left nostril, coiling around the left channel, and dissolving into the red Āḥ (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: 阿) at the navel. As the wind exits, visualize the blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: 吽) entering the flesh channel and exiting from the right nostril. From the exertion of the wind, with exertion and without exertion, meditate on the peaceful and wrathful winds with exertion. Meditate on the gentle wind without exertion. Focusing on both is consistent with learning the Vajra recitation. When the mind is seized by Āḥ (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आः, Sanskrit Romanization: āḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: 阿), that is focusing on the Vajra recitation. Having meditated on the Vajra recitation and the focus of the mind, meditate as if it were an illusion. All phenomena appear as if they were an illusion. By seeing all phenomena as if they were an illusion, although grasping at substantiality is destroyed, since grasping at mere illusion is substantial, one should meditate on clear light. Meditate on clear light by dissolving the three appearances in the order of subsequent dissolution, or by meditating on clear light all at once in an instant. All phenomena dissolve into clear light and arise as illusion. Realizing all phenomena as the non-dual union, by practicing the union of learning, one manifests the union of no more learning. Chapter Eight, practicing the Five Stages. Chapter Eight, practicing the Five Stages.
