Immoderate in food, Lazy, of diminished energy; Māra overpowers him, Like the wind a weak tree. 93. Contemplating impurity, Dwelling thus, well restrained in the senses, moderate in food, faithful, with aroused energy, him Māra cannot overcome, like the wind, a rocky mountain. 94. As a house badly roofed, rain penetrates, so an undeveloped mind, lust penetrates. 95. Thus contemplating, those weakened by lust's fire, having found a footing in the Teaching, are without longing, delighting in detachment. 96. Having received the Buddha's advice, "I am not capable, I will not be," not destroying hate and craving, when will one be ripe? Not doing meritorious deeds, not forgiving others' faults. 97. Craving is a bodily fabrication, making one do low and base things, faith is a mental fabrication, making one do high and noble things. 98. Craving delights in the visible, faith in good conduct and devotion, craving wanders scattered, faith wanders clearly. 99. Craving is a mental defilement, bringing endless suffering with its retinue, faith is a mental purification, bringing happiness following oneself. 100. Craving and faith, thus, know their distinction in truth, having known craving, destroy it, cultivate faith in the mind. 101. Sugar cane crushed in the mill, sandalwood ground to powder, sweet and fragrant, so is the same in loving-kindness, even when harmed. 102. Even cutting itself, it perfumes, like sandalwood with its fragrance, the peaceful one perfumes even self-harm, with the fragrance of loving-kindness. 103. Never does it smell bad, dry or powdered sandalwood, likewise, even when suffering befalls, the peaceful one does not do evil. 104. Forgive the fault, do the right thing, remember the Buddha's patience, even towards an enemy with intense hatred, may there be no malice in oneself. 105. The abuse does not reach me, it is only destructive to himself, knowing thus, the wise one, should not abuse anyone. 106. The abuse does not reach me, it is only destructive to himself, knowing thus, one should endure, and not retaliate. 107. He takes up the abuser's fault, retaliation is not superior, the wise one does not follow that, lest he become more evil. 108. Craving and ignorance are the two roots, of the poison of saṃsāra. At Ādapa: Hearing the Good Dhamma everywhere, These are the only two sweet fruits. 109. Purify the mind, By striving, purify it. Carry immeasurable happiness, Unhappiness is impurity unpurified. 110. Purified, it leads to a good destiny, Like the unpurified to a bad destiny. Purify the mind, O Mālimpa, It is stained by lust and hatred. 111. By whom the born of hatred are destroyed, In his teaching there is compassion; Nowhere else taking that, The wise one destroys that pair. 112. In the hermitage made in Ranakunu, In the eastern Daguṃceti, While dwelling with the highest Dhamma, This was composed by the Elder.
