This person is called "untimely liberated." All noble persons are untimely liberated in the noble liberations. Description of the Liable to Fall Away and Not Liable to Fall Away And what kind of person is of a nature to fall away? Here, a certain person is an obtainer of attainments accompanied by form or accompanied by formlessness, but he is not an obtainer at will, not an obtainer without difficulty, not an obtainer without trouble; he does not enter or emerge from them whenever he wishes, however he wishes, for as long as he wishes. This is indeed a possibility, that due to the negligence of that person, those attainments might fall away. This person is called "of a nature to fall away." The Stream-Enterer Who Takes Seven More Births at Most And what kind of person is one who takes seven more births at most? Here, a certain person, with the destruction of the three fetters, is a stream-enterer, not liable to fall into a lower state, assured, bound for enlightenment. He, having wandered and transmigrated among gods and humans seven times, makes an end of suffering. This person is called "one who takes seven more births at most." The Meaning of Stream-Enterer "Stream, stream," Sāriputta, is what is said. What, then, Sāriputta, is the stream? This Noble Eightfold Path, indeed, venerable sir, is the stream. That is, right view... and so on... right concentration. "Stream-enterer, stream-enterer," Sāriputta, is what is said. What, then, Sāriputta, is the stream-enterer? He, indeed, venerable sir, who is endowed with this Noble Eightfold Path, this one is called a stream-enterer. This venerable one, of such a name, of such a clan, or such and such. The Stream-Enterer Who Goes from Clan to Clan And what kind of person is one who goes from clan to clan? Here, a certain person, with the destruction of the three fetters, is a stream-enterer, not liable to fall into a lower state, assured, bound for enlightenment. He, having wandered and transmigrated through two or three clans, makes an end of suffering. This person is called "one who goes from clan to clan." The Stream-Enterer with One Seed And what kind of person is one with one seed? Here, some person, by the destruction of three fetters, becomes a stream-enterer, not subject to falling, assured, destined for full enlightenment. He, having generated only one human existence, makes an end of suffering. This person is called an Ekabījī (One-Seeder). Description of the Once-Returner And what person is a Once-Returner? Here, some person, by the destruction of three fetters, and the attenuation of lust, hatred, and delusion, becomes a Once-Returner. Having come to this world only once, he makes an end of suffering. This person is called a Once-Returner.
