Answer – In the Sakyan country, venerable sir, in Kapilavatthu, at the Nigrodha Park, it was spoken concerning Nandiya the Sakyan. Nandiya the Sakyan, venerable sir, said to the Blessed One: “Venerable sir, if a noble disciple does not have the four factors of stream-entry in every respect, in all ways, is that noble disciple then one who dwells heedlessly?” In that context, venerable sir, the Blessed One spoke thus: “Nandiya, if one does not have the four factors of stream-entry in every respect, in all ways, I say that one stands outside, in the company of ordinary people.” Truths Connected Animal Talk Sutta Question – In the Truths Connected, friends, the Animal Talk Sutta, the tenth recited by the ancient great elders who compiled the Dhamma, where, concerning whom, and how was it spoken by the Blessed One? Answer – In Sāvatthī, venerable sir, concerning many bhikkhus: “Bhikkhus, do not engage in various kinds of animal talk. Such as, talk of kings, talk of robbers…” talk about kings, talk about armies, talk about fear, talk about war, talk about food, talk about drink, talk about clothes, talk about beds, and so on, venerable sir, was spoken by the Blessed One. You should speak: "This is suffering." Therefore, monks, "This is suffering" is to be practiced... ... "This is the path leading to the cessation of suffering" is to be practiced. Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta Question: There, friends, in the Dhammacakkappavattana section, where the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta was first recited by the ancient great elders who compiled the Dhamma, where, concerning whom, and how was it spoken by the Blessed One? Answer: In Bārāṇasī, venerable sir, at Isipatana in the Deer Park, concerning the group of five monks, "These two extremes, monks, should not be indulged in by one who has gone forth. Which two? That which is devotion to sensual pleasure in sensual objects, which is low, vulgar, worldly, ignoble, unbeneficial; and that which is devotion to self-mortification, which is painful, ignoble, unbeneficial. Avoiding both these extremes, monks, the Middle Way has been fully awakened to by the Tathāgata," and so on, was spoken by the Blessed One. Āsavakkhaya Sutta Question: There, friends, in the Koṭigāma section, where the Āsavakkhaya Sutta was fifth recited by the ancient great elders who compiled the Dhamma, where, concerning whom, and how was it spoken by the Blessed One? Answer: In Sāvatthī, venerable sir, concerning many monks, "Monks, I declare the destruction of the taints for one who knows and sees, not for one who does not know and does not see. And what, monks, is it that one knows and sees for the destruction of the taints? Monks, for one who knows and sees 'This is suffering,' there is the destruction of the taints. For one who knows and sees 'This is the origin of suffering,' 'This is the cessation of suffering,' 'This is the path leading to the cessation of suffering,' there is the destruction of the taints. Thus, monks, for one who knows thus, who sees thus, there is the destruction of the taints. Therefore, monks, 'This is suffering' is to be practiced; 'This is the origin of suffering,' 'This is the cessation of suffering,' 'This is the cessation of suffering..." "The practice of the downward path should be done." Thus indeed was it spoken by the Blessed One. Sīsapāvana Sutta Question: Therein, friends, in the Sīsapāvana section, the Sīsapāvana Sutta, first chanted by the ancient great elders who compiled the Dhamma, by the Blessed One, where, concerning whom, and how was it spoken? Answer: At Kosambī, venerable sir, in the Sīsapāvana, concerning many bhikkhus, beginning with "What do you think, bhikkhus, which is more: the few Sīsapā leaves I have taken in my hand, or what is above in the Sīsapāvana?", thus and so was it spoken by the Blessed One. The Section on the Five Destinies (Repeated Passages) Question: Therein, friends, in the section on the Five Destinies (Repeated Passages), chanted as the conclusion by the ancient great elders who compiled the Dhamma, by the Blessed One, where, concerning whom, and how was it spoken? Answer: At Vesālī, venerable sir, concerning many bhikkhus, beginning with "What do you think, bhikkhus, which is more: this little dust I have placed on my fingernail, or this great earth?", thus and so was it spoken by the Blessed One. Question: Who, friends, are training? Answer: Those in training, venerable sir, and noble ordinary people are training. Question: Who, friends, have completed their training? Answer: Arahants, venerable sir, have completed their training. Question: Where, friends, does it stand? Answer: Among those desirous of training, venerable sir, it stands. Question: Who, friends, uphold it? Answer: Those for whom it is applicable, venerable sir, they uphold it. Question: Whose, friends, is this word? Answer: It is the word of the Blessed One, venerable sir, the Arahant, the Perfectly Self-Awakened One. Question: By whom, friends, was it brought? Answer: By tradition, venerable sir, it was brought.
