English
And excluding absorption, And excluding faculties. Restraints, however, Together with the path, Are a condition for eighteen things. Wrong view, then, Excluding result, Is a condition for seventeen things. Wrong speech, action, and livelihood, Through these, and through nutriment as a condition, Are conditions in nineteen ways. Shamelessness, recklessness, Conceit, sloth, torpor, And restlessness, These, excluding result, And excluding nutriment, And excluding absorption, And excluding the path, Are conditions for sixteen things. Doubt, envy, stinginess, And worry, then, Excluding dominance, Are conditions in fifteen ways. Thus, they are conditions in many ways. But for these, Not abandoning their condition of contiguity, There are six other conditions, Namely, immediately preceding, Support, action, absence, and disappearance. The aggregate of consciousness, Should be understood as having many conditions, Only through the dominance condition. In the condition of co-nascence, The great elements, Are conditions in nine ways, Namely, object, object-object, Dominance, co-nascence, Mutuality, dependence, Support, presence, and non-disappearance. The heart-base, Is a condition in the same ways, With the addition of dissociation and association. In the condition of dependence, The eye-base and so on, Are conditions in nine ways, Namely, object, object-object, Dominance, dependence, Support, pre-nascence, Faculty, dissociation, Presence, and non-disappearance. In the condition of pre-nascence, The visible form, sound, odor, taste bases, and so on, Are conditions in six ways, Namely, object, object-object, Dominance, support, Pre-nascence, presence, and non-disappearance. In the condition of nutriment, Nutriment, Is a condition in six ways, Namely, object, object-object, Dominance, support, Nutriment, presence, and non-disappearance. For these, Not abandoning their respective conditionality, The conditionality of object, dominance, Immediately preceding, contiguous, support, and so on, Should be understood in the manner stated everywhere. The rest is easily understood. This is the determination of one thing with many conditions. Of many things, Being a single condition. For in these, Setting aside the action condition, In the remaining twenty-three conditions, Many things, together, Are a single condition for each. But the action condition, Is volition, a single thing. This is the determination of many things. The determination based on homogeneity of effect. Homogeneous and heterogeneous: Among these, the immediately contiguous, contiguity, antecedent condition, habitual practice, absence, and separation conditions are homogeneous, as are object, object-domination, and object-antecedent condition. The prenascent condition is heterogeneous with the postnascent, as is the associated with the dissociated, presence with absence, the departed with the undeparted; this is the determination based on homogeneity and heterogeneity. Pairs: Here, a pair should be understood based on similarity of meaning, similarity of sound, opposition of time, cause and effect, and mutual opposition. The immediately contiguous and contiguity are one pair, due to similarity of meaning. Antecedent condition and strong antecedent condition are due to similarity of sound, prenascent and postnascent due to opposition of time, action and result due to cause and effect, associated and dissociated due to mutual opposition, as are presence and absence conditions, departed and undeparted conditions; this is the determination based on pairs. Generative and supportive: That is, generative and supportive. Among these, the immediately contiguous, contiguity, antecedent condition, strong antecedent condition, habitual practice conditions, momentary action condition, and absence and separation conditions are generative only, not supportive. The postnascent condition is supportive only, not generative. The rest are both generative and supportive; this is the determination based on generative and supportive. Difference based on universality, etc.: That is, difference based on universal and non-universal. Among these, the co-nascent, antecedent condition, presence, and undeparted conditions are universal. They are desirable in all conditioned phenomena. Without these, not even one phenomenon arises. The rest are non-universal. And among them, the object, object-domination, immediately contiguous, contiguity, antecedent condition, strong antecedent condition, prenascent, habitual practice, associated, presence, absence, and departed conditions are non-universal, since they are causes only for immaterial phenomena. Similarly, the postnascent condition is non-universal, since it is a cause only for material phenomena, the rest are non-universal, since they are causes for some material and immaterial phenomena. This is the determination based on universality, etc. The determination by way of division: "Rūpa-arūpa alternatives" means by alternatives such as rūpa for rūpa, rūpa for arūpa, etc. For among these, there is no condition that, being only rūpa, is a condition only for rūpa; but there is rūpa only for arūpa, that is, the prenascent condition, one only. There is also no condition that, being only rūpa, is a condition for both rūpa and arūpa; but there is arūpa only for arūpa, that is, sixfold by way of contiguity, immediacy, repetition, association, absence, and disappearance. But there is also arūpa only for rūpa, that is, the postnascent condition, one only. There is also arūpa for both rūpa and arūpa, that is, fivefold by way of root, kamma, result, jhāna, and path. There is also rūpa-arūpa concept for arūpa only, that is, twofold by way of object and support. But there is also rūpa-arūpa for rūpa-arūpa, that is, ninefold by way of dominance, conascence, reciprocity, dependence, nutriment, faculty, dissociation, presence, and absence. This is the determination by way of rūpa-arūpa alternatives. The determination by way of existence: For among these conditions, in five-aggregate existence, there is no condition that is not found; all are found. But in four-aggregate existence, excluding the prenascent, postnascent, and dissociative conditions, only twenty-one remain. In one-aggregate existence, only seven are found by way of conascence, reciprocity, dependence, kamma, faculty, presence, and absence. But in external non-faculty-bound rūpa, only five are found, excluding the kamma-faculty. This is the determination by way of existence. The inclusion: For all these twenty-four conditions are included in eight conditions: object, conascence, support, prenascent, postnascent, kamma, nutriment, and faculty. How? For the conditions of root, reciprocity, result, jhāna, path, and association are included in the conascent condition. The five conditions of contiguity, immediacy, repetition, absence, and disappearance are included in the support condition of contiguity. The dependence condition is twofold, by way of conascence and prenascent. Therein, the conascent is in the conascent condition, the prenascent in the prenascent condition. By the force of. The dominance condition, being an object, is in the object-support condition, and being co-nascent, is in the co-nascent condition. The dissociation condition, being co-nascent, pre-nascent, and post-nascent, is included in those respective conditions. The presence and absence conditions, being co-nascent, pre-nascent, post-nascent, nutritive, and faculty-related, are included in those respective conditions. Thus, the inclusion of all conditions in these conditions should be understood. Therefore, in the negation method of the Triplet Condition text, some questions are answered only by means of these eight conditions. However, there is also mutual inclusion among these eight conditions. Among them, the object condition, being dominant, is in the support condition, and not being dominant, is nowhere; thus, it stands alone as the object condition. The action condition, being co-nascent, is in the co-nascent condition. However, the non-momentary, powerful action is a support for resultant phenomena, so it is included in the support condition. However, the powerful action-produced material phenomena and the weak immaterial phenomena, being non-momentary action conditions, stand alone. The nutritive condition, being immaterial, is in the co-nascent condition, and being material, is nowhere; thus, it stands alone. The faculty condition, being immaterial, is in the co-nascent condition, the sense faculties are in the pre-nascent condition, and the material life faculty is included nowhere; thus, the faculty condition stands alone. Thus, mutual inclusion is also present. However, all these twenty-four conditions are included in the four conditions of object, support, action, and presence; this is the determination by way of inclusion. This is the concise determination of meaning, together with the meaning of the non-expanded words. The Miscellaneous Determination is finished. In the method of analysis, the establishment of the text in this regard should be understood concisely as follows. In the Condition text, having laid down the condition terms "root condition... to... absence condition" by way of the matrix, of those conditions - "the root is by root condition for the phenomena associated with the root and for the material phenomena produced from them." "A cause" and so on, the designation section known as conditionality was first stated in this way. And that too, the immediately following summary meaning determination is shown there in each case. After that, the twenty-four conditions, based on the wholesome triad and the like, the twenty-two triads, the root dyad and the like, the hundred dyads, and by way of various divisions, the complete combination of the twenty-four conditions, the complete conditionality of endless methods, was distinguished. How? Conditionality is fourfold:
