Do not scratch with a rough object, nor with a stick in the latrine pit; Do not discard or drop saliva into the urinal trough. Standing on sandals, the discerning one should open it; And standing there, should close it upon leaving. If one does not rinse after defecating, when there is water; For him, an offense of wrong-doing is declared by the sage, the destroyer of delusion. One should not rinse noisily, making "capu capu" sounds; And after rinsing, no water should be left in the bowl. For one leaving without washing the anus, there is a dukkaṭa; If there are any impurities, they should be cleaned completely. If the scraping stick container is full, one should empty it; If the pot is empty, fill the pot with water. Uninvited by an elder, one should not recite the Pātimokkha; Nor speak Dhamma, nor ask a question, nor answer one. For one speaking after asking an elder, when an elder comes... Again, in asking permission, "There is nothing" is declared. 2944. By an elder in one monastery, When dwelling together, Without asking permission, chanting Should never be done. 2945. Even recitation should not be done, What then of questioning? Nor should the Dhamma be taught By a monk with the eye of Dhamma. 2946. A lamp should not be extinguished, Nor should it be made so. Window shutters Should be closed, should not be opened. 2947. When walking on the cloister, Turn away from the elder. And do not touch him With the corner of the robe or the body. 2948. Never bathe in front of elders, Nor above them. Give way to those descending, Do not touch them. 2949. One not fulfilling duties Does not fulfill virtue. Impure in virtue, foolish, Does not find one-pointedness of mind. 2950. With scattered, unfocused mind, He does not see the true Dhamma. Not seeing the true Dhamma, He is not freed from suffering. 2951. Therefore, a discerning son of the Jina Should fulfill his duties. Having followed the advice of the Supreme Buddha, He will attain Nibbāna. 2952. A bhikkhunī, having exposed Her body, thigh, or breast, Or her private parts, Should not show them to a monk. 2953. And if she engages in anything With a monk, Then speaking to the monk, She incurs an offense of wrong-doing. 2954. A bhikkhunī should not wear A long body-band; Nor with that body-band, Or a breast-band. 2955. Nor with a woven band, Or a leather band, similarly; Or a cloth band, a cloth braid, Or a cloth string. 2956. The ribs should not be bent, Bending them incurs an offense of wrong-doing. A nun should not cause her hips To be rubbed with bone, etc. 2957. Hand or armpit, Foot or face or thigh; If she causes them to be beaten, She incurs an offense of wrong-doing. 2958. The face should not be smeared, Nor should it be powdered. Or with red arsenic, an offense For one smearing the face... iya. 2959. No body-paint should be applied, nor face-paint either; No eye-liner should be applied, nor beauty marks. 2960. Because of lust from looking, it is not proper to look; One should not stand in a public place, nor cause dancing. 2961. It was called a wrong-doing by the Sage, for a nun who raises a courtesan; Or who sells liquor, or meat, or leaves. 2962. It is not proper to engage in usury or trade; If she wears a hair-net or a jacket, it is a wrong-doing. 2963. A male slave or a female slave, or a worker likewise; Should not be attended to, nor an animal. 2964. And a nun should not wear a completely blue, etc., robe; She should not wear it, nor anything completely new. 2965. Hidden or unhidden, cut or uncut; It is not proper to look at any male organ. 2966. Having seen a monk from afar, a nun should; Give way to him, stepping aside from afar. 2967. And having seen a monk while going for alms; She should take out her bowl, and show it to the monk, turned upside down. 2968. To make a pleat, or to wear a waist-string; Is permitted during the season for menstruating women by the Great Seer. 2969. A vehicle pulled by women, or an elephant-drawn one; And a stretcher for the sick, it is proper to ride. 2970. Even for one who abides in the weighty rules, while undergoing penance; Having been appointed, a second nun should be given. 2971. If a woman's pregnancy becomes apparent at the time of her ordination; If she has a son, a second nun should be given to her likewise. 2972. The mother may suckle, and feed her own son; She may hold him to her chest, and sleep with him. 2973. Except for sleeping together, with that second nun; She should behave as with other men. 2974. She is indeed a wanderer, since she is not a nun here; Therefore, the nun's training-rule... there is no explanation. 2975. Just as for her who has gone astray, there is no re-ordination; For her who has gone to a bathing place, so there is no re-ordination. 2976. The cutting of nails and hair, and salutation by men; And the treatment of a wound, it is permissible to accept. 2977. No excrement should be made by anyone in a latrine; It is permissible even below, uncovered, or above, covered. 2978. It is not permissible everywhere to sit in the full lotus posture; For a sick person, the half-lotus, it is declared to be permissible. 2979. And a bhikkhuni should not dwell in the forest at all; It is not permissible to bathe in a ford or a non-ford. 2980. The nun who, with scented powder, or with perfumed oil, Bathes against the current, she incurs an offense of wrong-doing. 2981. "You alone consume it," for her own consumption; Having not eaten what was given, giving it to another, she incurs a wrong-doing. 2982. Having had everything received, to consume it with bhikkhus; When there are no fully ordained bhikkhus, it is permissible for bhikkhunis. The Discourse on the Bhikkhuni Khandhaka. Thus ends the Discourse on the Khandhakas in the Vinaya-Vinicchaya. Discourse on the Four Kinds of Kamma 2983. These are the four kinds of kamma: that called 'announcement'; 'Motion', 'motion-second', and 'motion-fourth' kamma. 2984. The announcement kamma goes to five instances; The motion kamma to nine instances, the second goes to seven. 2985. Likewise, the motion-fourth also goes to seven instances; Expulsion and reinstatement, the 'bundle' and the 'brahma-punishment'. 2986. The announcement kamma, the fifth characteristic of kamma; Expulsion and reinstatement, speak of them from the novice. 2987. The 'bundle' by one going forth, the 'brahma-punishment' by one who is hidden; It should also be done for another, for such a bhikkhu. 2988. Having all assembled, and having asked permission completely; The Sangha gives to him the robes and other requisites. 2989. Having announced it three times, with the consent of the bhikkhus; Thus the giving of the Sangha, This is the characteristic of the act. Expulsion, then reception, Uposatha and Pavāraṇā; Authorization and giving, And acceptance is the seventh. And revocation, Is declared the eighth; And the characteristic of the act, These are the nine points of a motion. When the decision is not reached, For the elder who knows no discipline; His expulsion is declared, That is indeed expulsion. For one seeking ordination, "Come, reception!" that is it; Also by way of Uposatha, And by way of Pavāraṇā. Because they are established by motion, These two are motion-acts; "Indeed, I should instruct the ordination-seeker," And so on. "I would question such-and-such a monk, On discipline," and so on; Indeed, such a motion, Is authorization. The giving of discarded robes, etc., Is called "giving"; The acceptance of offenses, Is called "acceptance." Revocation, indeed, Is considered the revocation of Pavāraṇā; "Having performed this Uposatha, I will perform Pavāraṇā at the proper time." In the act of spreading grass, This is the very first motion; This is the characteristic of the act, These are the nine points of a motion. A motion-with-second-announcement act, Also goes to seven points; Expulsion, then reception, Authorization, and giving. Lifting up, declaration, And the characteristic of the act is the seventh; The overturning of the bowl, etc., Is considered expulsion and reception. Authorization, such as a boundary, Is considered to be of fifteen kinds; The giving of the Kathina cloth, The giving of a deceased monk's robe. The lifting up of the Kathina's inner part, Is called "lifting up"; The declaration of the material for a hut, And of the material for a monastery. And in the act of spreading grass, And in placing delusion, etc.; Here, by way of the formal announcement, The characteristic of the act is considered. Thus, for the motion-with-second-announcement, These seven are declared; Likewise, a motion-with-fourth-announcement, Also goes to seven points. Expulsion, then reception, Authorization, giving, censure; And admonition, The seventh is the characteristic of the act. Of the seven. The performance of acts like threatening, expulsion and appeasement, is considered their reinstatement. 3007. The instruction of bhikkhunis is declared as 'authorization'; The granting of mānatta and parivāsa is called 'giving'. 3008. Again, the pulling back from the root is called 'punishment'; Followers of the suspended, eight, and up to the third time. 3009. Ariṭṭha and Caṇḍakāḷī, these are eleven; According to these, eleven admonitions should be known. 3010. The act of ordination and the act called reinstatement; These are the seventh characteristic of acts in the motion-fourth type. 3011. The act of declaration should be performed by declaration; It should not be performed by motion-second or motion-fourth. 3012. There are no light motion-second acts; All authorizations should be performed by declaration. 3013.
