Concerning that, lust arises...etc.... displeasure arises. Well-practiced things in the past...etc.... jhanas...etc.... The Noble Ones reflect on the fruit, reflect on Nibbāna. Nibbāna for the change-of-lineage, for purification, for the fruit, for advertence, is a condition by way of object condition. The Noble Ones reflect on abandoned defilements...etc.... suppressed defilements...etc.... accumulated things in the past...etc.... eye...etc.... base, non-emancipatory aggregates, non-emancipatory... …sorrow arises; one sees forms with the divine eye, one hears sounds with the divine ear element, one knows the mind of one endowed with a non-leading mind with the knowledge of penetration of minds, the base of infinite space for the base of infinite consciousness… the base of nothingness for the base of neither perception nor non-perception… the form base for eye-consciousness… the tangible base for body-consciousness… the non-leading aggregates for the knowledge of psychic power, for the knowledge of penetration of minds, for the knowledge of recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of the passing away and rebirth of beings according to their karma, for the knowledge of future events, for advertence, are causes by way of object condition. A non-leading phenomenon is a cause for a leading phenomenon by way of object condition – Nibbāna is a cause for the path by way of object condition. (2) Dominance Condition 315. A leading phenomenon is a cause for a leading phenomenon by way of dominance condition. Co-arisen dominance – a leading dominant factor is a cause for the associated aggregates by way of dominance condition. A leading phenomenon is a cause for a non-leading phenomenon by way of dominance condition – object dominance, co-arisen dominance. Object dominance – Noble Ones, having arisen from the paths, make the path important and review it. Co-arisen dominance – a leading dominant factor is a cause for mind-originated material forms by way of dominance condition. (The root should be made.) A leading dominant factor is a cause for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated material forms by way of dominance condition. (3) 316. A non-leading phenomenon is a cause for a non-leading phenomenon by way of dominance condition – object dominance, co-arisen dominance. Object dominance – having performed generosity… having performed morality… having performed the Uposatha observance, one makes it important and reviews it, enjoys it, delights in it; making it important, lust arises, wrong view arises; previously well-performed deeds… having arisen from jhānas… Noble Ones make the fruit important and review it, make Nibbāna important and review it; Nibbāna for the change of lineage, for purification, for the fruit… It is a condition by way of predominance condition; the eye… (and so on) … the physical basis, making the non-emancipatory aggregates weighty, one enjoys and delights in them. Making that weighty, lust arises, wrong view arises. Conascent Predominance – The predominance of non-emancipatory things is a condition by way of predominance for the associated aggregates and mind-originated material phenomena. A non-emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of predominance for an emancipatory phenomenon. Object Predominance – Nibbāna is a condition by way of predominance for the path. (2) Beginning with the Contiguity Condition 317. An emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of contiguity for a non-emancipatory phenomenon – the path is a condition by way of contiguity for the fruit. (1) A non-emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of contiguity for a non-emancipatory phenomenon – earlier, earlier non-emancipatory aggregates are a condition by way of contiguity for later, later non-emancipatory aggregates; adaptation for change-of-lineage… adaptation for purification… fruit for fruit… adaptation for fruit-attainment… for one emerging from cessation, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception is a condition by way of contiguity for fruit-attainment. A non-emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of contiguity for an emancipatory phenomenon… change-of-lineage for the path; purification is a condition by way of contiguity for the path. (2) It is a condition by way of immediate contiguity… It is a condition by way of conascence… five… It is a condition by way of mutuality… two… It is a condition by way of support… seven. Decisive Support Condition 318. An emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of decisive support for an emancipatory phenomenon. Natural Decisive Support – The first path is a condition by way of decisive support for the second path… (and so on) … the third path is a condition by way of decisive support for the fourth path. An emancipatory phenomenon is a condition by way of decisive support for a non-emancipatory phenomenon – object decisive support, contiguity decisive support, natural decisive support… (and so on). Natural Decisive Support – Noble ones, having decisive support in the path, attain the unarisen… they generate it, they enter into what has arisen, they discern formations as impermanent… (and so on)… the path for noble ones to the analytical knowledge of meaning… (and so on)… to the analytical knowledge of exposition is a condition by way of decisive support for skill in discerning right and wrong occasions, the path is a condition by way of decisive support for the attainment of fruition. (2) 319. A non-leading phenomenon is a condition for a non-leading phenomenon by way of decisive support – decisive support by object, decisive support by contiguity, decisive support by nature… (and so on)… Decisive support by nature – relying on non-leading faith, one gives alms, observes precepts… (and so on)… performs Uposatha duties, generates jhāna… insight… supernormal knowledge… generates attainment… cultivates conceit… grasps wrong view; relying on non-leading morality… (and so on)… wisdom… lust… (and so on)… aspiration… season… food… lodging, one gives alms… (and so on)… generates attainment, takes life… (and so on)… causes schism in the Saṅgha; non-leading faith… (and so on)… lodging for non-leading faith… (and so on)… aspiration… for bodily pleasure… for bodily pain… for the attainment of fruition is a condition by way of decisive support. A non-leading phenomenon is a condition for a leading phenomenon by way of decisive support – decisive support by object, decisive support by contiguity, decisive support by nature… (and so on)… Decisive support by nature – the preparatory work for the first path is a condition for the first path by way of decisive support… (and so on)… the preparatory work for the fourth path is a condition for the fourth path by way of decisive support. (2) Conditions of pre-existence, etc. 320. A non-leading phenomenon is a condition for a non-leading phenomenon by way of pre-existence… two (to be done like the pair of formless states)… is a condition by way of post-existence… two… is a condition by way of repetition… two. Kamma condition 321. A leading phenomenon is a condition for a leading phenomenon by way of kamma – leading volition is a condition for the associated aggregates by way of kamma. A leading phenomenon is a condition for a non-leading phenomenon by way of kamma. causal condition – co-arising, momentary-separate. Co-arising – volitional thought leading to liberation is a causal condition for mind-originated material phenomena by way of kamma. Momentary-separate – volitional thought leading to liberation is a causal condition for its fruit by way of kamma.
