in predominance five, in contiguity nine, in immediate contiguity nine, in co-nascence nine, in mutuality nine, in reliance nine, in strong reliance nine, in pre-nascence nine, in repetition nine, in kamma nine (everywhere nine), in non-disappearance nine. 2. Adversarial to Conditions 1. Analysis Section Non-causal Condition 337. An internal phenomenon arises from an internal phenomenon by way of non-causal condition – at the moment of ahetuka rebirth, mind arises from mind, internal kamma-born matter; eye-base arises from eye-consciousness. (Abbreviated. Thus, all nine questions should be made. Including the five consciousnesses, there are only three delusions.) 2. Adversarial to Conditions 2. Enumeration Section Pure 338. In non-causal nine, in non-object nine, in non-predominance nine, in non-contiguity nine, in non-immediate contiguity nine, in non-mutuality nine, in non-strong reliance nine, in non-pre-nascence nine, in non-post-nascence nine, in non-repetition nine, in non-kamma three, in non-result five, in non-nutriment one, in non-faculty one, in non-jhāna nine, in non-path nine, in non-association nine, in non-disassociation five, in non-absence nine, in non-non-disappearance nine. 4. Reliance Section (Thus, the other two enumerations and the reliance section should also be made.) 5. Association Section 1-4. Conducive to Conditions, etc. 339. An external phenomenon associated with an internal phenomenon arises by way of causal condition – the associated concomitant aggregates arise from mind; at the moment of rebirth, the associated concomitant aggregates arise from mind. (1) An external phenomenon associated with an external phenomenon arises by way of causal condition – two aggregates associated with one external aggregate, two aggregates…etc… at the moment of rebirth…etc…. An internal phenomenon associated with an external phenomenon arises by way of causal condition – mind associated with external aggregates; at the moment of rebirth…etc…. Internal and external phenomena associated with an external phenomenon arise by way of causal condition – two aggregates and mind associated with one external aggregate, two aggregates…etc… at the moment of rebirth…etc…. (3) An internal and an external phenomenon. An external phenomenon connected (with an internal phenomenon) arises by way of root condition – one external aggregate and consciousness, two aggregates connected (with each other), two aggregates…etc… at the moment of rebirth…etc… (abbreviated). Five by way of root, five by way of object, five by way of dominance (five in all), five by way of non-disappearance (direct). An internal phenomenon. An external phenomenon connected (with an internal phenomenon) arises not by way of root condition (thus five should be made, only three are delusion). Five not by way of root, five not by way of dominance, five not by way of pre-existence, five not by way of post-existence, five not by way of repetition, three not by way of kamma, five not by way of result, five not by way of jhāna, five not by way of path, five not by way of dissociation (reverse). 6. Connected Chapter (Thus the other two enumerations and the connected chapter should also be made.) 7. Question Chapter 1. Direct Conditions 1. Analysis Chapter Root Condition 340. An external phenomenon is a condition for an external phenomenon by way of root condition – external roots are a condition for the connected aggregates and for mind-originated material phenomena by way of root condition – at the moment of rebirth, external roots are a condition for the connected aggregates and for external kamma-born material phenomena by way of root condition. (1) An external phenomenon is a condition for an internal phenomenon by way of root condition – external roots are a condition for consciousness by way of root condition; at the moment of rebirth, external roots are a condition for consciousness and for internal kamma-born material phenomena by way of root condition. (2) An external phenomenon is a condition for an internal and an external phenomenon by way of root condition – external roots are a condition for the connected aggregates and for consciousness and for mind-originated material phenomena by way of root condition; at the moment of rebirth, external roots are a condition for the connected aggregates and for consciousness and for internal and external kamma-born material phenomena by way of root condition. (3) Object Condition 341. An internal phenomenon is a condition for an internal phenomenon by way of object condition By which condition: Dependent on mind, mind arises. Dependent on mind, external aggregates arise. Dependent on mind, mind and associated aggregates arise. An external phenomenon is a condition for an external phenomenon by way of object condition: Having performed giving (etc.) morality (etc.) Uposatha actions, one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it. Dependent on that, lust (etc.) displeasure arises. One reviews what was well-practiced before. Having emerged from jhana, one reviews jhana (etc.) Having emerged from the noble path, one reviews the path (etc.) the fruit (etc.) Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for the lineage-changing consciousness, for purification, for the path, for the fruit, for advertence, by way of object condition. Noble ones review external defilements that have been abandoned. They know defilements that have been suppressed (etc.) defilements accumulated in the past. Upon form (etc.) the basis, external aggregates as impermanent (etc.) displeasure arises. With the divine eye, one sees form. With the divine ear element, one hears sound. With the knowledge of penetrating minds, one knows the mind of another being. The base of infinite space is a condition for the base of infinite consciousness (etc.) The base of nothingness is a condition for the base of neither perception nor non-perception (etc.) The form base is a condition for the aggregates associated with eye-consciousness by way of object condition (etc.) The tangible base (etc.) External aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of psychic powers, for the knowledge of penetrating minds, for the knowledge of recollecting past lives, for the knowledge of knowing beings' destinies according to their karma, for the knowledge of future events, for advertence, by way of object condition. An external phenomenon is a condition for an internal phenomenon by way of object condition: Having performed giving (etc.) morality (etc.) Uposatha actions, one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it. Dependent on that, mind arises. What was well-practiced before (etc.) jhana (etc.) defilements accumulated in the past (etc.) Upon form (etc.) the basis, external aggregates as impermanent (etc.) one discerns, relishes, delights in it. Dependent on that, mind arises. it arises. With divine eye, one sees form... form-base for eye-consciousness... tangible-base... external aggregates for knowledge of psychic power, knowledge of penetrating minds, knowledge of recollecting past lives, knowledge of knowing beings' destinies, knowledge of future events, for advertence, are a condition by way of object condition. (3) External phenomenon for internal and external phenomena is a condition by way of object condition – having done giving... morality... Uposatha observance, one reflects on it, enjoys it, delights in it, on account of that, consciousness and associated aggregates arise (abbreviated, all should be done). External aggregates as impermanent... one discerns, enjoys, delights in, on account of that, consciousness and associated aggregates arise. With divine eye, one sees form... form-base for eye-consciousness and associated aggregates... tangible-base... external aggregates for knowledge of psychic power, knowledge of penetrating minds, knowledge of recollecting past lives, knowledge of knowing beings' destinies, knowledge of future events, for advertence, are a condition by way of object condition. (3) Internal and external phenomena for internal phenomenon are a condition by way of object condition... three. Dominance Condition 342. Internal phenomenon for internal phenomenon is a condition by way of dominance condition. Object dominance – making consciousness weighty, consciousness arises. (1) Internal phenomenon for external phenomenon is a condition by way of dominance condition – object dominance, conascence dominance. Object dominance – making consciousness weighty, external aggregates arise. Conascence dominance – consciousness dominance for associated aggregates and mind-originated forms is a condition by way of dominance condition. (Root) Object dominance – making internal consciousness weighty, consciousness and associated aggregates arise. (3) External phenomenon for external phenomenon by way of dominance condition Not a condition – object-dominance, co-arising-dominance. Object-dominance – having given a gift... three (the two dominances should be made for all three). (3) Internal and external phenomena for internal phenomena are a condition by way of dominance condition... three (for all three, there is only one dominance). Starting with Contiguity Condition 343. Internal phenomenon for internal phenomenon is a condition by way of contiguity condition – the preceding, preceding mind for the succeeding, succeeding mind is a condition by way of contiguity condition... three. External phenomenon for external phenomenon is a condition by way of contiguity condition – the preceding, preceding external aggregates for the succeeding, succeeding aggregates are a condition by way of contiguity condition; adaptation to the lineage-breaker... three (for all three, it is the same). Internal and external phenomena for internal phenomena are a condition by way of contiguity condition... three, are a condition by way of immediate contiguity condition... nine, are a condition by way of co-arising condition...
