Present roots are a condition for associated aggregates and mind-originated material forms by way of root condition. At the moment of rebirth-linking... etc. Object Condition 2. A past phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of object condition. Having given alms, having undertaken precepts, having performed Uposatha duty... etc., one reflects. One reflects on good deeds done in the past. Having emerged from jhana, one reflects on jhana. Noble Ones, having emerged from the path, reflect on the path. They reflect on the fruit. They reflect on abandoned defilements. They reflect on suppressed defilements. They know defilements accumulated in the past. One discerns the past eye as impermanent, suffering, non-self... etc., sorrow arises. The past ear... etc., nose... tongue... body... forms... sounds... smells... tastes... tangibles... base... One discerns past aggregates as impermanent, suffering, non-self. One relishes, one delights in. Concerning that, lust arises. Wrong view arises. Doubt... restlessness... sorrow arises. The base of infinite space is a condition for the base of infinite consciousness by way of object condition. The base of nothingness is a condition for the base of neither perception nor non-perception by way of object condition. Past aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of psychic powers, the knowledge of penetrating minds, the knowledge of recollecting past lives, the knowledge of knowing beings' destinies according to their kamma, and for advertence, by way of object condition. 3. A future phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of object condition. The future eye... etc., base... Future aggregates as impermanent... etc., sorrow arises. Future aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of psychic powers, the knowledge of penetrating minds, the knowledge of future events, and for advertence, by way of object condition. A present phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of object... By accumulation, condition – the present eye... and so on... body... forms... sounds... smells... tastes... tangibles... base... the present aggregates as impermanent... and so on... displeasure arises, with the divine eye, one sees forms, with the divine ear-element, one hears sounds, the form-base for eye-consciousness... and so on... the tangible-base for body-consciousness... and so on... the present aggregates for the knowledge of psychic power, for advertence, by object condition, it is conditioned. (1) Dominance Condition 4. A past phenomenon conditions a present phenomenon by dominance condition. Dominance by object – having given alms, having undertaken precepts... and so on... having made what was well-practiced before important, one reviews it, having emerged from jhana, having made jhana important, one reviews it. Having emerged from the noble path, they make the path important and review it, having made the fruit important, they review it. The past eye... and so on... body... forms... sounds... smells... tastes... tangibles... base... having made past aggregates important, one relishes and delights in them, having made that important, lust arises, wrong view arises. (1) A future phenomenon conditions a present phenomenon by dominance condition. Dominance by object – the future eye... and so on... base... having made future aggregates important, one relishes and delights in them, having made that important, lust arises, wrong view arises. A past phenomenon is a condition by decisive support for a present phenomenon – decisive support by object, decisive support by contiguity, decisive support by nature… and so on. Decisive support by nature – relying on past faith, one gives alms, undertakes precepts, performs Uposatha duties, generates jhāna, generates insight… the path… supernormal knowledge… attainment, utters conceit, grasps wrong view. Relying on past virtue… and so on… wisdom… lust… and so on… aspiration… bodily pleasure… bodily pain, one gives alms, undertakes precepts, performs Uposatha duties… and so on… generates attainment, kills living beings… and so on… causes schism in the Sangha. Past faith… and so on… wisdom, lust… and so on… aspiration, bodily pleasure… bodily pain… are a condition by decisive support for present faith… and so on… wisdom, for lust… and so on… for aspiration… and so on… for the attainment of fruition. (1) A future phenomenon is a condition by decisive support for a present phenomenon – decisive support by object, decisive support by nature… and so on. Decisive support by nature – desiring future perfection of sight… and so on… perfection of hearing… perfection of smell, perfection of taste… perfection of body… perfection of appearance… perfection of sound… perfection of smell… perfection of taste… desiring the perfection of touch... desiring future aggregates, one gives alms, undertakes precepts, performs Uposatha duties... future perfection of sight... perfection of complexion... perfection of touch... future aggregates are a condition by way of decisive support for present faith... wisdom, bodily happiness, bodily suffering, the path, the attainment of fruition. (1) A present phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of decisive support – object decisive support, natural decisive support... Natural decisive support: relying on the present season, one generates jhāna, insight... relying on present food, lodging, one generates jhāna... generates attainment. Present season... food... lodging are a condition by way of decisive support for present faith... wisdom, bodily... the attainment of fruition. (1) Pre-nascent Condition 9. A present phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of pre-nascent condition – object pre-nascent, base pre-nascent. Object pre-nascent: seeing the eye... the base as impermanent... sorrow arises. With the divine eye, one sees form. With the divine ear-element, one hears sound. The visible object is a condition for eye-consciousness... the tangible object for body-consciousness by way of pre-nascent condition. Base pre-nascent: The eye-base is a condition for eye-consciousness... the body-base for body-consciousness... the base is a condition for present aggregates by way of pre-nascent condition. (1) Post-nascent Condition 10. A present phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of post-nascent condition – the post-nascent present aggregates are a condition for this pre-nascent body by way of post-nascent condition. (1) Repetition Condition 11. An past phenomenon is a condition for a present phenomenon by way of repetition condition – earlier, earlier past aggregates for later, later present aggregates. It is conditioned by repetition. Conformity to the change-of-lineage… conformity to the purification… change-of-lineage to the path… purification to the path are conditioned by repetition. Kamma Condition 12. Past phenomena are conditioned by kamma for present phenomena. Of different moments – past volition is conditioned by kamma for present resultant aggregates and kamma-born material phenomena. Present phenomena are conditioned by kamma for present phenomena – present volition is conditioned by kamma for associated aggregates and mind-born material phenomena. At the moment of rebirth-linking, present volition is conditioned by kamma for associated aggregates and kamma-born material phenomena. Result Condition 13. Present phenomena are conditioned by result for present phenomena – a present resultant single aggregate is conditioned by result for three aggregates and mind-born material phenomena… and so on… two aggregates… and so on… at the moment of rebirth-linking… and so on… aggregates are conditioned by result for the base. Nutritive Essence Condition, etc. 14. Present phenomena are conditioned by nutritive essence for present phenomena… conditioned by faculty… conditioned by jhana… conditioned by path… conditioned by association… conditioned by dissociation – conascence, pre-ascence, post-ascence. Conascent – present aggregates are conditioned by dissociation for mind-born material phenomena.
