By knowledge of the minds of others, they know the mind of one endowed with a mind to be abandoned by insight. The aggregates to be abandoned by insight are a condition by way of object for knowledge of the minds of others, for knowledge of past lives, for knowledge of the passing away and reappearance of beings according to their kamma, for knowledge of future events, for advertence. (2) 72. The phenomenon to be abandoned by development is a condition by way of object for the phenomenon to be abandoned by development. One savors and delights in lust to be abandoned by development. Concerning that, lust to be abandoned by development arises, restlessness arises. Mental pain to be abandoned by development arises. The phenomenon to be abandoned by development is a condition by way of object-condition for the phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development – Noble ones reflect on defilements abandoned by development, they reflect on defilements suppressed, they know defilements accumulated in the past. They discern the aggregates to be abandoned by development as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self, by means of mind-penetrating knowledge, they know the mind of one endowed with a mind to be abandoned by development. The aggregates to be abandoned by development are a condition by way of object-condition for mind-penetrating knowledge, for the knowledge of recollecting past abodes, for the knowledge of knowing the destination of beings according to their karma, for the knowledge of future events, for advertence. The phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development is a condition by way of object-condition for the phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development – having given a gift, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one reflects on that, one reflects on what was well-practiced in the past, having emerged from absorption, one reflects on the absorption. Noble ones, having emerged from the path, reflect on the path, they reflect on the fruition, they reflect on Nibbāna; Nibbāna is a condition by way of object-condition for the change of lineage, for purification, for the path, for the fruition, for advertence. One discerns the eye as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; the ear… the nose… the tongue… the body… forms… sounds… odors… tastes… tangibles… the base… one discerns the aggregates to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; by means of the divine eye, one sees forms, by means of the divine ear-element, one hears sounds, by means of mind-penetrating knowledge, they know the mind of one endowed with a mind to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development, the sphere of infinite space for the sphere of infinite consciousness… (etc.) the sphere of nothingness for the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception… (etc.) the form-sphere is a condition by way of object-condition for eye-consciousness… (etc.) the tangible-sphere is a condition by way of object-condition for body-consciousness. ... Aggregates to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by developing, for the knowledge of psychic powers, for the knowledge of others' minds, for the knowledge of past lives, for the knowledge of how beings fare according to their karma, for the knowledge of future events, are a condition by way of object-condition for advertence. (1) A phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by developing, is a condition by way of object-condition for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing. Having given alms, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one relishes and delights in it. Concerning that, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises, sorrow to be abandoned by seeing arises. One relishes and delights in good deeds done previously... Having risen from absorption, one relishes and delights in absorption. Concerning that, lust to be abandoned by seeing... wrong view... doubt... When absorption declines, for one who regrets, sorrow to be abandoned by seeing arises. One relishes and delights in the eye... ear... nose... tongue... body... forms... sounds... odors... tastes... tangibles... base... one relishes and delights in aggregates to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by developing. Concerning that, lust to be abandoned by seeing... wrong view... doubt... sorrow to be abandoned by seeing arises. (2) A phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by developing, is a condition by way of object-condition for a phenomenon to be abandoned by developing.
