Therein, common wholesome is neither wholesome nor unwholesome, just as common wholesome roots and common unwholesome roots abandon arisen sensual thought… and the four right exertions are wholesome and unwholesome. Here are the summary verses: Thought, indeed, is for my purpose, A giving person is dear, thus; Whoever takes life, Three are his marks of foolishness. Of hundreds and thousands, And those ascetics and brahmins; From desire, hatred, fear, delusion, And by the four wrong paths. Dwelling contemplating the unattractive, And the unattractive in signs; Even if one dear being, Friends, if well-spoken. Wisdom, indeed, is supreme in the world, Understanding, the three faculties; And wholesome and unwholesome roots, Measured and immeasurable arising. One should do wholesome with the body, And the three good conducts; Well-spoken, they say, is supreme, And the good conducts of speech of the peaceful. And one should do wholesome with the body, And bad conducts of mind; And always guarding the body, And the three purities. Whose faith is in the Tathagata, And taught in arising; Strive, go forth, And that which is right exertion. For the mindful, always welfare, Development of mindfulness foundations; And for one desiring non-ignorance, And those three concentrations. Wisdom, indeed, is supreme in the world, Three wisdoms are declared; One not free from lust for sensual pleasures, Just so, the five faculties.
