20. The Chronicle of Phussa Buddha 1. In that very Maṇḍa eon, there was an unsurpassed Teacher; Incomparable, unequalled, Phussa, the world's foremost leader. 2. He, too, having destroyed all darkness, having untangled the great tangle; Satisfying the world with its deities, rained down the water of immortality. 3. When Phussa, at the auspicious constellation, set the Wheel of Dhamma in motion; For a hundred thousand crores, there was the first realization. 4. For ninety hundred thousand, there was the second realization; For eighty hundred thousand, there was the third realization. 5. There were three assemblies, for Phussa, the great sage; Of those whose defilements were destroyed, pure, with peaceful minds, such ones. 6. For sixty hundred thousand, there was the first gathering; For fifty hundred thousand, there was the second gathering. 7. For forty hundred thousand, there was the third gathering; Of those liberated without clinging, whose rebirth was cut off. 8. I, at that time, was a khattiya named Vijitāvī; Having abandoned a great kingdom, I went forth into his presence. 9. That Buddha, Phussa, the world's foremost leader, also declared concerning me; ‘‘In ninety-two eons from now, this one will become a Buddha. 10. ‘‘Having striven with effort... etc. ... we shall be face to face with him.’’ 11. Having heard his words, I further gladdened my mind; I undertook a higher vow, for the fulfillment of the ten perfections. 12. The Suttanta and the Vinaya, the nine-fold teaching of the Teacher; Having mastered all, I adorned the teaching of the Conqueror. 13. Dwelling there diligently, having developed the divine meditation; Having reached perfection in supernormal powers, I went to the Brahma-world. 14. The city named Kāsika, the khattiya named Jayasena; Sirimā was the mother, of Phussa, the great sage. 15. For nine thousand years, he dwelt in the household; Garuḷapakkha, Haṃsa, Suvaṇṇabhārā, were the three excellent palaces. 16. Thirty thousand women, adorned; Kisāgotamī was the woman, Anūpamo was the son. 17. Having seen the four signs, he went forth by elephant-carriage; For six months... The supreme man went for alms. 18. Requested by Brahmā, Phussa, the world's foremost leader; The great hero, the supreme man, set the Wheel in motion in Migadāya. 19. Surakkhita and Dhammasena were the chief disciples; Sabhiya by name was the attendant of Phussa, the great sage. 20. Cālā and Upacālā were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One is called Āmaṇḍa. 21. Dhanañcaya and Visākha were the chief lay supporters; Padumā and Nāgā were the chief lay female supporters. 22. Fifty-eight cubits (in height), he, the sage, was exceedingly tall; He shone like the sun, like the full moon king. 23. Ninety thousand years was his life-span; Remaining for that long, he saved many people. 24. Having advised many beings, having saved many people; That teacher of immeasurable fame also passed away with his disciples. 25. Phussa, the supreme victorious teacher, passed away in Senārāma; His relics were spread in various places. The eighteenth account is of the Blessed One Phussa.
