The Chronicle of Atthadassī Buddha 1. In that very auspicious eon, Atthadassī, the greatly renowned, having destroyed the great darkness, attained the supreme enlightenment. 2. Being entreated by Brahmā, he set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma; he satisfied the world with the Deathless, including ten thousand deities. 3. For that Lord of the World, there were three realizations; of a hundred thousand crores, was the first realization. 4. When the Buddha Atthadassī was wandering among the devas, of a hundred thousand crores, was the second realization. 5. Again, when the Buddha taught near his father, of a hundred thousand crores, was the third realization. 6. There were three assemblies, for that great sage too; of those whose defilements were destroyed, pure, tranquil-minded, such ones. 7. Of ninety-eight thousand, was the first assembly; of eighty-eight thousand, was the second assembly. 8. Of seventy-seven hundred thousand, was the third assembly; of those liberated without clinging, pure great sages. 9. I, at that time, was an ascetic with matted hair, of severe austerities; by name Susīma, considered chief on earth. 10. Divine Mandārava flowers, lotuses, Pārichattaka flowers; having brought them from the deva world, I worshipped the Fully Awakened One. 11. That Buddha also declared concerning me, Atthadassī, the great sage: "After eighteen hundred eons, this one will become a Buddha. 12. "Having striven with effort... (and so on)... we shall be face to face with him." 13. Having heard his words, delighted and with a stirred mind; I undertook further vows, for the fulfillment of the ten perfections. 14. The city was named Sobhaṇa, the khattiya (king) was named Sāgara; Sudassanā was the mother, of Atthadassī, the Teacher. 15. For ten thousand years, he dwelt in the household; Amara, Sugiri, Vāhana, were the three excellent palaces. 16. And thirty-three thousand, adorned women; Visākhā was the wife, and Sela was the son. 17. Having seen the four omens, he went forth by horse-drawn carriage; For not less than eight months, he strove... Life abandoned the Conqueror. 18. By Brahmā implored, the peaceful Attadassī, greatly renowned; The great hero turned the Wheel, the chief of men in Anoma Park. 19. Santo and Upasanto, were the chief disciples; Abhaya by name was the attendant, of Attadassī the Teacher. 20. Dhammā and Sudhammā, were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One, is called Campaka. 21. Nakula and Nisabha, were the chief lay supporters; Makilā and Sunandā, were the chief lay women supporters. 22. That Buddha too, incomparable, eighty cubits tall; Shone like a royal sāla tree, like the full moon king. 23. His natural rays, many hundreds of millions; Upwards, downwards, ten directions, spread a league always. 24. That Buddha too, chief of men, supreme sage among all beings; For a hundred thousand years, remained in the world, the Seer. 25. Having shown incomparable radiance, having illuminated the world with devas; He too attained impermanence, like the exhaustion of fuel. 26. Attadassī, the supreme Conqueror, attained Nibbāna in Anoma Park; His relics were scattered, in various places. The fourteenth lineage of the Blessed Attadassī.
