15. The Chronicle of Piyadassī Buddha 1. After Sujāta, the self-born leader of the world; Unapproachable, unequalled, Piyadassī, greatly renowned. 2. That Buddha, of immeasurable fame, shone like the sun; Having dispelled all darkness, he set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma. 3. For him, of unequalled splendor, there were three realizations; Of a hundred thousand crores, was the first realization. 4. Sudassana, king of devas, held wrong view; Dispelling his view, the Teacher taught the Dhamma. 5. An immeasurable gathering of people, a great assembly gathered then; Of ninety thousand crores, was the second realization. 6. When the charioteer of men disciplined the elephant Doṇamukha; Of eighty thousand crores, was the third realization. 7. There were three assemblies for that Piyadassī too; Of a hundred thousand crores, was the first gathering. 8. After that, ninety crores of sages gathered together; In the third assembly, there were eighty crores. 9. At that time, I was a brahmin named Kassapa; A reciter, a holder of mantras, one who had mastered the three Vedas. 10. Having heard his Dhamma, I generated faith; With a hundred thousand crores, I had a monastery built for the Saṅgha. 11. Having given him the monastery, joyful and with a stirred mind; I firmly undertook the refuges and the five precepts. 12. That Buddha too declared me, sitting in the midst of the Saṅgha; "After eighteen hundred aeons, this one will become a Buddha. 13. "Having striven with effort... (etc.) ... we shall be face to face with him." 14. Having heard his words, I further purified my mind; I undertook additional vows, for the fulfillment of the ten perfections. 15. The city was named Sudhañña, the khattiya was named Sudatta; His mother was named Candā, for Piyadassī the Teacher. 16. For nine thousand years, he lived in the household; Sunimmala, Vimala, Giriguha, were the three excellent palaces. 17. And thirty-three thousand adorned women; Vimalā and a woman named, and a son named Kañcanāveḷa. 18. Seeing the four signs, He went forth by chariot; For six months the supreme man Practiced strenuous effort. 19. Being requested by Brahmā, The great sage Piyadassī; The great hero set in motion the wheel In the delightful Usabha park. 20. Pālita and Sabbadassī Were the chief disciples; Sobhita was the attendant named Of the Teacher Piyadassī. 21. Sujātā and Dhammadinnā Were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One Is called Kakudha. 22. Sandhaka and Dhammaka Were the chief male lay attendants; Visākhā and Dhammadinnā Were the chief female lay attendants. 23. That Buddha, of immeasurable fame, Possessed the thirty-two excellent marks; Eighty cubits in height, He appeared like a king of sāla trees. 24. Of fire, moon, and sun, There is no such radiance; As was the radiance of that Incomparable great sage. 25. Of that God of gods, The lifespan was so long; Ninety thousand years The Seer remained in the world. 26. That Buddha, peerless among peers, And those immeasurable ages; All that has vanished, Are not all formations empty? 27. The excellent sage Piyadassī Attained Nibbāna in the Assattha grove; There indeed his Jina-stūpa Rose three yojanas high. The lineage of the Blessed One Piyadassī, the thirteenth.
