1. After Padumuttara, was a leader named Sumedha; Unapproachable, of fierce energy, the best sage in all the world. 2. With serene eyes, a pleasant face, great, upright, glorious; A well-wisher of all beings, he freed many from bonds. 3. When the Buddha attained the supreme, perfect enlightenment; In the city of Sudassana, he set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma. 4. There were three realizations of Dhamma teachings; For a hundred thousand crores, was the first realization. 5. Again, the Conqueror tamed the yakkha Kumbhakanna; For ninety thousand crores, was the second realization. 6. Again, Amitayasa proclaimed the Four Noble Truths; For eighty thousand crores, was the third realization. 7. There were three assemblies of the great sage Sumedha; Of Arahants, pure ones, peaceful-minded, such ones. 8. When the Conqueror approached the city named Sudassana; Then the Arahant bhikkhus amounted to a hundred crores. 9. Again, at Devakūṭa, where bhikkhus spread kathina robes; Then for ninety crores, was the second assembly. 10. Again, when the Ten-Powered One was wandering on tour; Then for eighty crores, was the third assembly. 11. At that time, I was a young man named Uttara; Eighty crores of wealth was accumulated in my house. 12. Giving away all to the world-leader with his Sangha; I went for refuge to him, and delighted in ordination. 13. That Buddha also declared me, giving his approval; "In thirty thousand aeons, this one will become a Buddha. 14. "Having striven with effort... (etc.)... we shall be face to face with him." 15. Hearing his words, I made my mind even more serene; I undertook further vows, for the fulfillment of the ten perfections. 16. The Suttanta and Vinaya, the nine-fold teaching of the Master; Having mastered all, I adorned the Conqueror's Dispensation. 17. Dwelling there diligently, in sitting and walking meditation; Having reached perfection in supernormal powers, I went to the Brahma world. hahaṃ. 18. Sudassana was the city, Sudatta was the king; Sudattā was the mother, of the great sage Sumedha. 19. Nine thousand years, he lived in the household life; Sucanda, Kañcana, Sirivaḍḍha, were the three excellent palaces. 20. Thirty-six thousand, adorned women; Sumanā was that woman, Punabbasu was the son. 21. Seeing the four omens, he went forth by elephant-chariot; For a full half-month, the Victor strove in exertion. 22. Being requested by Brahmā, Sumedha, the leader of the world; The great hero set the Wheel in motion, in the excellent Sudassana park. 23. Saraṇa and Sabbakāma, were the chief disciples; Sāgara was the attendant, of the great sage Sumedha. 24. Rāmā and Surāmā, were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One, is called Mahānīpa. 25. Uruvelā and Yasavā, were the chief male attendants; Yasodharā and Sirimā, were the chief female attendants. 26. Eighty-eight cubits, was the height of the great sage; He illuminated all directions, like the moon among the stars. 27. Just as a Wheel-gem, shines for a league; So too his gem, radiated for a league all around. 28. Ninety thousand years, was his lifespan; While he thus endured, he saved many people. 29. With those possessing the three knowledges and six supernormal powers, with those endowed with strength, such ones; This was filled, with good Arahants. 30. All those of immeasurable fame, liberated, without substratum; Having shown the light of knowledge, those greatly renowned ones attained Nibbāna. 31. The excellent Victor, the Buddha Sumedha, attained Nibbāna in Medhārāma; His relics were scattered, in various places. The lineage of the Blessed One Sumedha, the eleventh.
