9. The Chronicle of Anomadassī Buddha 1. After Sobhita, the Fully Awakened One, supreme among bipeds; Anomadassī, of immeasurable fame, resplendent, insurmountable. 2. He cut off all bonds, destroyed the three existences; He taught the path of no return, to devas and humans. 3. Like the ocean, unshaken, like a mountain, unapproachable; Like the sky, endless, like a flowering sāla king. 4. By merely seeing that Buddha, beings were gladdened; Hearing his uttered speech, they attained the Deathless. 5. The realization of the Dhamma by him, was mighty and extensive then; Hundreds of millions realized, at the first Dhamma teaching. 6. Thereafter, at the realization, as the Dhamma rain poured down; Eighty millions realized, at the second Dhamma teaching. 7. And thereafter, as it poured, and satisfied beings; For seventy-eight millions, there was the third realization. 8. There were three assemblies, of that great sage too; Of those who had attained powers of higher knowledge, who had blossomed in liberation. 9. Eight hundred thousand, was the assembly then; Of those whose pride and delusion were abandoned, whose minds were tranquil, such ones. 10. Seven hundred thousand, was the second gathering; Of those without defilements, stainless, calm, such ones. 11. Six hundred thousand, was the third gathering; Of those who had attained powers of higher knowledge, extinguished, ascetics. 12. At that time, I, was a mighty yakkha; I was the lord, master of many millions of yakkhas. 13. Even then, I approached that supreme Buddha, the great sage; I satisfied him and the Sangha, the leader of the world, with food and drink. 14. He too then declared to me, the sage with pure vision; “After immeasurable aeons, this one will become a Buddha. 15. “Having striven the striving… (etc.)… we shall be face to face with him.” 16. Hearing his words, joyful and with a sense of urgency; I undertook further vows, for the fulfillment of the ten perfections. 17. The city was named Candavatī, the khattiya was named Yasavā; The mother was named Yasodharā, of Anomadassī, the Teacher. For ten thousand years, he lived in the household; With Siri and Upasiri growing, three excellent palaces. Twenty-three thousand adorned women; Sirimā was that woman, Upavāṇa was his son. Seeing the four signs, he went forth in a palanquin; For not less than ten months, the Conqueror strove in exertion. Being requested by Brahmā, Anomadassī, the great sage; The great hero set the wheel in motion, in that Sudassana park. Nisabha and Anoma were the chief disciples; Varuṇa was the attendant, of Anomadassī, the Teacher. Sundarī and Sumanā were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One is called Arjuna. Nandivaḍḍha and Sirivaḍḍha were the chief male attendants; Uppalā and Padumā were the chief female attendants. Fifty-eight cubits, was the great sage's height; His radiance streamed forth, like the risen sun. A hundred thousand years, was his life-span; Remaining for that long, he ferried many people across. The teaching flourished, with Arahants, such ones; Free from passion, pure, the Conqueror's Dispensation shone. And that Teacher, of immeasurable fame, those incomparable ages; All that has vanished, are not all formations empty? Anomadassī, the Conqueror, the Teacher, attained Nibbāna in Dhammārāma; There his Conqueror's stupa, was twenty-five (cubits) high. The lineage of the Blessed One Anomadassī, the seventh.
