8. The Chronicle of Sobhita Buddha 1. After Revata, a leader named Sobhita; Composed, peaceful-minded, unequalled, an incomparable person. 2. That Victorious One, in his own home, renounced his mind; Having attained perfect enlightenment, he set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma. 3. Down to Avīci, and up to the highest existence; In this interval, one assembly was present at the Dhamma teaching. 4. For that assembly, the Fully Enlightened One set in motion the Wheel of Dhamma; Not to be spoken of in numbers, was the first realization. 5. And then, while teaching further, at an assembly of devas; For ninety thousand crores, there was a second realization. 6. Again, another time, a prince, a khattiya named Jayasena; Having planted a park, offered it to the Buddha then. 7. Praising his offering, the Seeing One taught the Dhamma; Then for a thousand crores, there was a third realization. 8. There were three assemblies of the great sage Sobhita; Of those whose defilements were destroyed, pure ones, peaceful-minded, such ones. 9. A king named Uggata gave an offering to the supreme man; At that offering, there gathered a hundred crores of Arahants. 10. Again, another time, a multitude of citizens gave an offering to the supreme man; Then for ninety crores, there was a second assembly. 11. Having dwelt in the deva world, when the Victorious One descended; Then for eighty crores, there was a third assembly. 12. I, at that time, was a brahmin named Sujāta; Then the Buddha with his disciples, I satisfied with food and drink. 13. That Buddha, too, declared about me, Sobhita, the leader of the world: "In an immeasurable aeon, this one will become a Buddha. 14. "Having exerted effort... we shall be face to face with him." 15. Having heard his words, joyful and with a stirred mind; For the attainment of that very goal, I made a strong resolve. 16. The city was named Sudhamma, the khattiya was named Sudhamma; The mother was named Sudhammā, of the great sage Sobhita. 17. For nine thousand years, he dwelt in the household; Kumuda, Nāḷina, Paduma, three the excellent palace. 18. Thirty-seven thousand, adorned women; Manila was that woman, Sīha was his son. 19. Seeing the four signs, he went forth from the palace; For seven days, the supreme man practiced strenuous exertion. 20. Being requested by Brahmā, the world-leader Sobhita; The great hero set the wheel of Dhamma in motion, in the excellent Sudhamma garden. 21. Asama and Sunetta were the chief disciples; Anoma was the attendant of the great sage Sobhita. 22. Nakulā and Sujātā were the chief female disciples; And that Buddha awakened at the foot of a Nāga tree. 23. Ramma and Sudatta were the chief attendants; Nakulā and Cittā were the chief female attendants. 24. Fifty-eight cubits, was the height of the great sage; He illuminated all directions, like the risen sun. 25. Just as a fully bloomed forest, is perfumed with various scents; So too his teaching, was perfumed with the scent of virtue. 26. Just as the ocean, is never tiresome to behold; So too his teaching, is never tiresome to hear. 27. Ninety thousand years, was his lifespan; Remaining for that long, he saved many people. 28. Having given advice and instruction, to the remaining people; Like a fire, having blazed, he attained Nibbāna with his disciples. 29. That Buddha was incomparable, and those disciples were powerful; All that has vanished, are not all formations empty? 30. Sobhita, the excellent Fully Awakened One, attained Nibbāna in Sīhārāma; His relics were scattered, in various places. The lineage of the Blessed One Sobhita, the sixth.
