7. The Chronicle of Revata Buddha 1. After Sumanassa, There was a leader named Revata; Incomparable, unequalled, Immeasurable, the supreme Conqueror. 2. He too proclaimed the Dhamma, Implored by Brahmā; The establishment of aggregates and elements, Non-arising in existence after existence. 3. Three were his realizations, Of Dhamma teachings; The first realization, Cannot be spoken of by number. 4. When the sage Revata, Tamed King Arindama; Then there was the second realization, Of ten million. 5. Having emerged from seven days of seclusion, The chief of men; Tamed a hundred million men and devas, To the supreme fruits. 6. There were three assemblies, Of the great sage Revata; Of those with destroyed defilements, stainless, Well-liberated, such ones. 7. Those who gathered first, Exceeded the path of counting; The second assembly, Was of a hundred thousand million. 8. He who was unequalled in wisdom, His follower of the wheel; He was then ill, Having reached a life-threatening condition. 9. To inquire about his illness, Those sages who then came; Ten million Arahants, That was the third assembly. 10. At that time, I, Was a brahmin named Atideva; Having approached the Buddha Revata, I went for his refuge. 11. His virtue, his concentration, His supreme quality of wisdom; Having praised them to my utmost, I offered my upper robe. 12. That Buddha, Revata, The leader of the world, declared to me: "After immeasurable aeons, This one will become a Buddha. 13. "Having striven with effort… (etc.) … We shall be face to face with him." 14. Having heard his words, My mind was even more gladdened; I undertook further vows, For the completion of the ten perfections. 15. Even then, remembering that Buddha-Dhamma, I cultivated it; I shall bring about that Dhamma, Which is desired by me. 16. The city was named Sudhaññavatī, The khattiya was named Vipula; Vipulā was the mother, Of the great sage Revata. 17. Six and For six thousand years, he lived in a house. Sudassana, adorned with jewels, with a garland, and embellished; Three excellent palaces, born of meritorious deeds. 18. Thirty-three thousand adorned women; A woman named Sudassanā, a son named Varuṇa. 19. Seeing four signs, he went forth by chariot; For not less than seven months, the Conqueror strove in exertion. 20. Being entreated by Brahmā, Revata, the leader of the world; The Great Hero set the Wheel in motion, in the Varuṇārāma, the glorious abode. 21. Varuṇa and Brahmadeva were the chief disciples; Sambhava was the attendant of Revata, the Great Sage. 22. Bhaddā and Subhaddā were the chief female disciples; That Buddha, incomparable, awakened at the foot of a Nāga tree. 23. Paduma and Kuñjara were the chief male lay supporters; Sirīmā and Yasavatī were the chief female lay supporters. 24. That Buddha, in height, was eighty cubits tall; He illuminated all directions, like a rising Indra-banner. 25. From his body arose an incomparable aura; By day or by night, it spread for a yojana all around. 26. Sixty thousand years was his lifespan; While he remained for that long, he ferried many people across. 27. Having shown the Buddha's power, proclaiming the Deathless in the world; He attained Nibbāna without clinging, like a fire extinguished when its fuel is consumed. 28. That body like a jewel, that Dhamma incomparable; All that has vanished, are not all formations empty? 29. Revata, the glorious Buddha, attained Nibbāna in the great city; His relics were scattered in various places. The fifth lineage of the Blessed One Revata.
