The Chronicle of Dīpaṅkara Buddha 1. Then, having fed The World-Leader with his Saṅgha, They went for refuge to him, Dīpaṅkara, the Teacher. 2. Some, in taking refuge, The Tathāgata established; Some in the five precepts, Others in the ten-fold precepts. 3. To some he gave monkhood, And the four supreme fruits; To some, in incomparable states, He gave the analytical knowledges. 4. To some the best attainments, The eight, the Bull of Men gave; To some the three knowledges, And the six supernormal powers he bestowed. 5. By that method the multitude of people, The Great Sage exhorted; By that was expanded, The teaching of the World's Protector. 6. With great jaws and bull-shoulders, Named Dīpaṅkara; He ferried many people across, He released them from suffering. 7. Seeing people capable of awakening, Even a hundred thousand leagues away; In an instant having gone there, The Great Sage awakened them. 8. At the first realization, the Buddha, Awakened a hundred crores; At the second realization, the Protector, Awakened ninety crores. 9. And when in the divine abode, The Buddha taught the Dhamma; For ninety thousand crores, There was a third realization. 10. There were three assemblies, Of Dīpaṅkara, the Teacher; Of a hundred thousand crores, Was the first gathering. 11. Again, at Nārada Peak, When the Conqueror had gone into solitude; A hundred crores of those whose defilements were destroyed, stainless, Gathered. 12. At which time the Great Hero, At the beautiful Sīla Peak; With ninety thousand crores, The Great Sage performed the Pavāraṇā ceremony. 13. For ten or twenty thousand, There was a realization of Dhamma; The realizations of one or two, Were countless in number. 14. Widespread, for the many, Prosperous and flourishing it was then; Of Dīpaṅkara, the Blessed One, The teaching was well-purified. 15. Four hundred thousand, Possessing six supernormal powers, of great might; Dīpaṅkara, the Knower of Worlds, Always surrounded. 16. Whoever at that time, Abandoned human existence; Learners whose minds had not attained (the goal), They were blamed. 17. The teaching was in full bloom, By such Arahants; By those whose defilements were destroyed, stainless, Up... shines always. 18. The city named Rammavatī, the king named Sudeva; The mother named Sumedhā, of the Teacher Dīpaṅkara. 19. For ten thousand years, he dwelt in the house; Swans, Cranes, and Peacocks, were the three excellent palaces. 20. Three hundred thousand, women adorned; That woman named Padumā, the son with bull-like shoulders. 21. Having seen the four signs, he went forth by elephant vehicle; For full ten months, the Conqueror strove in exertion. 22. Having practiced the striving, the sage awakened his mind; Being requested by Brahmā, Dīpaṅkara, the great sage. 23. The great hero turned the wheel, in Nandārāma, the glorious abode; Seated at the foot of the Sirīsa tree, he crushed the heretics. 24. Sumaṅgala and Tissa, were the chief disciples; Sāgata was the attendant, of the Teacher Dīpaṅkara. 25. Nandā and Sunandā, were the chief female disciples; The Bodhi tree of that Blessed One, is called Pipphalī. 26. Tapussa and Bhallika, were the chief male lay followers; Sirimā and Koṇā, the female lay followers, of the Teacher Dīpaṅkara. 27. Eighty cubits in height, Dīpaṅkara, the great sage; Shines like a lamp-tree, like a flowering royal Sāla tree. 28. A hundred thousand years, was the life-span of that great sage; Remaining for that long, he saved many people. 29. Having illuminated the true Dhamma, having ferried across the great multitude; Having blazed like a mass of fire, he attained Nibbāna with his disciples. 30. And that psychic power, and that glory, and those wheel-gems on his feet; All that has disappeared, truly all conditioned things are empty. 31. Dīpaṅkara, the Conqueror, the Teacher, attained Nibbāna in Nandārāma; Right there his Conqueror's stupa, was thirty-six yojanas in height. The first account of the Blessed One Dīpaṅkara.
