Will cross the great ocean;" With effort and energy, A man may cross the ocean. 80. Just so, the deed done by me, Which was small and little; Relying on that deed, I have overcome saṃsāra. 81. When the last existence arrived, Impelled by the root of merit; I was born in the city of Sāvatthī, In a very wealthy great family. 82. My faithful mother and father, Went for refuge to the Buddha; Both of them, having seen the path, Follow the teaching. 83. Taking a Bodhi sprout, They made a golden stupa; Morning and evening they pay homage, In front of the Sakyan's son. 84. On the Uposatha day, They brought out the golden stupa; Praising the Buddha's qualities, They spent the three watches of the night. 85. As soon as I saw the stupa, I remembered the sand stupa; Sitting in one sitting, I attained arahantship. 86. Seeking that hero, I saw the General of the Dhamma; Having gone forth from home, I went forth in his presence. 87. At seven years of age, I attained arahantship; The Buddha ordained me, The All-seeing One, knowing my qualities. 88. By me, a mere child, The task was completed; What was to be done has been done by me today, In the teaching of the Sakyan's son. 89. Gone beyond all enmity and fear, The sage gone beyond all attachments; Your disciple, great hero, This is the fruit of the golden stupa. 90. My defilements are burnt... I dwell without taints. 91. Truly, it was a good coming for me... The Buddha's teaching has been done. 92. The four analytical knowledges... The Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Pulinathūpiya spoke these verses. The eighth Apadāna of Elder Pulinathūpiya. 9. The Apadāna of Elder Naḷakuṭidāyaka 93. Not far from the Himalayas, was a mountain named Hārita. The Self-Born, named Nārada, dwelt then at its root. 94. Having made a reed-hut, I roofed it with grass. Having cleaned the walking-path, I gave it to the Self-Born. 95. By that well-done deed, and by my aspirations, Having abandoned the human body, I went to Tāvatiṃsa. 96. There for me, a well-made mansion, was constructed of reeds. Sixty yojanas high, thirty yojanas wide. 97. For fourteen aeons, I delighted in the deva-world. And seventy-one times, I ruled as king of devas. 98. And thirty-four times, I was a Wheel-turning Monarch. Vast regional rule, innumerable by count. 99. Having ascended the palace of Dhamma, supreme in all aspects, I dwell as I wish, in the teaching of the Sakya's Son. 100. Thirty-one aeons ago from now, the deed I did then; I know no bad destination, this is the fruit of the reed-hut. 101. My defilements are burnt away... ...I dwell without taints. 102. Welcome indeed it was for me... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. 103. The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Naḷakuṭidāyaka spoke these verses. The ninth Apadāna of Elder Naḷakuṭidāyaka. 10. The Apadāna of Elder Piyālaphaladāyaka 104. Formerly I was a hunter, wandering in the forest then. I saw the dustless Buddha, gone to the far shore of all phenomena. 105. Taking a piyāla fruit, I gave it to the foremost Buddha. To the hero, the field of merit, pleased with my own hands. 106. Thirty-one aeons ago from now, the fruit I gave then; I know no bad destination, this is the fruit of giving fruit. 107. My defilements are burnt away... ...I dwell without taints. 108. Welcome That indeed was mine... ...the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled. 109. "The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled." Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Piyālaphaladāyaka these verses spoke. The Tenth Apadāna of the Elder Piyālaphaladāyaka. The Fiftieth Kiṅkaṇipuppha Chapter. Its Summary – Kiṅkaṇī and Paṃsukūla, then Koraṇḍa, Kiṃsuka; Upaḍḍhadussī, Giver of Ghee, Udaka, Stūpa-maker. And Naḷakārī, the ninth, Piyālaphaladāyaka; And one hundred of verses, and nine in addition. Now the Chapter Summary – Metteyya Chapter, Bhaddāli, and Sakiṃsammajjaka; Ekavihārī, Vibhītakī, Jagatī, Sālapupphiya. Naḷāgāra, Paṃsukūla, Kiṅkaṇipupphiya likewise; And eighty-two verses, and fourteen hundred. The Metteyya Chapter Decad. The Fifth Hundred is completed.
