25. The Chapter of Tuvaradāyaka 1. The Apadāna of Thera Tuvaradāyaka 1. I was a deer hunter before, in the forest, in the wilderness. Having filled and taken tuvara (a kind of pulse), I gave it to the Saṅgha. 2. Ninety-one aeons ago, the gift I gave then; I know no bad destination, this is the fruit of the tuvara. 3. The four analytical knowledges, and the eight liberations; the six supernormal powers realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Tuvaradāyaka Thera spoke these verses. The first Apadāna of Thera Tuvaradāyaka. 2. The Apadāna of Thera Nāgakesariya 4. Having made my bow unerring, I entered the middle of the forest. Seeing the Nāgakesara flower fallen, risen from the leaves. 5. Taking it with both hands, making an añjali on my head; I offered it to the Buddha, Tissa, the kinsman of the world. 6. Ninety-two aeons ago from this, the flower I worshipped; I know no bad destination, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. 7. In the seventy-third aeon, seven named Kesara; endowed with the seven jewels, mighty Wheel-turning monarchs. 8. The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Nāgakesariya Thera spoke these verses. The second Apadāna of Thera Nāgakesariya. 3. The Apadāna of Thera Naḷinakesariya 9. In the middle of a natural lake, I lived as a water hen. I saw the god of gods, going through the air. 10. Taking a kesara flower with my beak, with a mind greatly purified; I offered it to the Buddha, Tissa, the kinsman of the world. 11. Ninety-two aeons ago from this, the flower I worshipped; I know no bad destination I do not know, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. 12. In the seventy-third eon, seven named Kesara, endowed with seven jewels, mighty Wheel-turning monarchs. 13. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations, the six supernormal powers have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Naḷinakesariya spoke these verses. The third Apadāna of the Elder Naḷinakesariya. 4. The Apadāna of the Elder Viravapupphiya. 14. With thousands of those whose defilements are destroyed, the leader of the world went forth. Taking a Virava flower, I offered it to the Buddha. 15. In the ninety-first eon, when I worshipped with that flower, I do not know misfortune, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. 16. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations, the six supernormal powers have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Viravapupphiya spoke these verses. The fourth Apadāna of the Elder Viravapupphiya. 5. The Apadāna of the Elder Kuṭidhūpaka. 17. For the Blessed One Siddhattha, I was a hut-keeper. From time to time I fumigated, pleased with my own hands. 18. In the ninety-fourth eon, when I did that deed, I do not know misfortune, this is the fruit of the incense offering. 19. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations, the six supernormal powers have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Kuṭidhūpaka spoke these verses. The fifth Apadāna of the Elder Kuṭidhūpaka. 6. The Apadāna of the Elder Pattadāyaka. 20. With supreme self-control, to the great seer Siddhattha, a bowl-offering was given by me, to the Straight One, the Such One. 21. In the ninety-fourth eon, when I gave that gift, I do not know misfortune, this is the fruit of the bowl-offering. 22. The four analytical knowledges, and these eight liberations, the six supernormal powers have been realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Elder Pattadāyaka spoke these verses. The sixth Apadāna of the Elder Pattadāyaka. 7. The Apadāna of the Elder Dhātupūjaka. 23. When he was extinguished... In Okanaatha, in Siddhattha, the best of men; One relic was obtained by me, of the Tādi, lord of bipeds. Taking that relic, of the Buddha, kinsman of the sun; For five years I attended, as if he were the best of men, still living. Ninety-four aeons ago, when I worshipped that relic; I know no suffering, this is the fruit of attending to the relic. The four analytical knowledges... the Buddha's teaching has been done. Seven sattali flowers, placing them on my head then; I offered them to the Buddha, to Vessabhū, the best of men. Thirty-one aeons ago from now, when I worshipped that flower; I know no suffering, this is the fruit of Buddha-worship. The four analytical knowledges... the Buddha's teaching has been done. The Victor named Padumuttara, self-born, foremost person; Proclaimed the Four Noble Truths, illuminated the deathless state. Bimbijālaka flowers, scattering them then; I offered them to the Buddha, to the Tādi, lord of bipeds. Sixty-eight aeons ago from now, four powerful kings; Endowed with seven treasures, wheel-turning monarchs, greatly powerful. The four analytical knowledges... the Buddha's teaching has been done. The self-born, unconquered one, named Kakudha; Having emerged from the forest, he reached a great river. Taking an uddālaka, I gave it to the self-born one; Restrained. Having become upright, I am serene in mind. 36. In the thirty-first eon from here, that flower which I offered; I do not know a bad destination, this is the fruit of that flower-offering. 37. The four analytical knowledges... ...the Buddha's teaching has been done. Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Uddālakadāyaka spoke these verses. The Tenth Apadāna of the Elder Uddālakadāyaka. The Twenty-fifth Chapter: Tuvaradāyaka. Its Summary – Tuvara, Nāga, Naḷina, Viravī, Kuṭidhūpaka; Patta, Dhātusattaliya, Bimbī, and Uddālaka; Thirty-seven verses are counted by the discerning ones.
