the Eye-bearer attained final Nibbāna. 74. Knowing my thought, a disciple named Sāgara; Desiring to uplift me, came to me. 75. “Why do you grieve? Do not fear, practice the Dhamma, O wise one; The Buddha has bestowed the seed-endowment upon all. 76. If one were to venerate the Fully Awakened One, the World-leader, while he is living; One should also venerate a mustard-seed-sized relic, even of one who has attained Nibbāna. 77. When the mind's serenity is equal, the merit is equal and great; Therefore, having made a stupa, venerate the relics of the Conqueror.” 78. Having heard Sāgara’s words, I made a Buddha-stupa; For five years I attended the supreme stupa of the Sage. 79. By that deed, O lord of bipeds, foremost of the world, bull among men; Having experienced prosperity, I attained Arahantship. 80. Four Wheel-turning monarchs, of vast wisdom, Endowed with seven treasures, of great power, [arose] seven hundred aeons from now. 81. The four analytical knowledges… …the Buddha’s teaching has been done. Thus indeed, the Venerable Paccupaṭṭhānasaññaka Thera spoke these verses. The Navama (Ninth) Apadāna of Paccupaṭṭhānasaññaka Thera. 10. The Apadāna of Jātipūjaka Thera 82. When Vipassī was born, a vast light arose; And the earth trembled. Ah, with oceans, with mountains. 83. And the soothsayers declared, A Buddha in the world will arise; And supreme among all beings, The people he will uplift. 84. Of the soothsayers having heard, I performed a birth-offering. Such an offering there is not, As is a birth-offering. 85. Having accumulated merit, My own mind I gladdened. The birth-offering having made, There I passed away. 86. Whatever birth I attain, Divinity or humanity; All beings I overcome, This is the fruit of the birth-offering. 87. Nurses attend me, Obedient to my will. They are not able to anger me, This is the fruit of the birth-offering. 88. Ninety-one aeons ago, What offering I made then; A bad destination I do not know, This is the fruit of the birth-offering. 89. Named Supāricariya, Thirty-four lords of men; In the third aeon from now, Wheel-turning monarchs of great power. 90. The four analytical knowledges… The Buddha’s teaching has been done. Thus indeed the Venerable Thera Jātipūjaka spoke these verses. The Tenth Apadāna of Thera Jātipūjaka. The Twelfth Chapter: The Great Retinue. Its summary – Parivāra, Sumaṅgala, Saraṇa, Āsana, Pupphiya; Citapūjī, Buddhasaññī, Maggupaṭṭhāna, Jātinā; Ninety verses are said, Counted by the wise.
