I fed that great sage; The great compassionate one in the world, Approved of me then. 158. In that great compassionate one, The giver of supreme solace; Having gladdened my mind in the Buddha, I rejoiced in heaven for an eon. 159. Ninety-four eons ago, The gift I gave then; I do not know a state of woe, This is the fruit of the alms-food gift. 160. The four analytical knowledges, And these eight liberations; The six supernormal powers realized, The Buddha's teaching has been done. To the Blessed One Siddhattha, the foremost of the world, the steadfast; I offered incense to his hut, with a mind well-pleased. 162. Ninety-four aeons ago, when I offered that incense; I know no bad destination, this is the fruit of the incense offering. 164. Thirty aeons from now, I was a king, lord of men; Named Mahāpulina, a mighty Wheel-turning monarch. 168. On the bank of the Candabhāgā river, I was then a crocodile; Engaged in my feeding grounds, I went to the river ford. 170. Siddhattha at that time, the Self-Enlightened, the foremost person; Wishing to cross the river, came to the river ford. 171. When the Fully Enlightened One arrived, I also came there; Having approached the Fully Enlightened One, I uttered this speech. I conveyed. 172. “Ascend, Great Hero, I will ferry you across; To my ancestral domain, have compassion, Great Sage.” 173. Hearing my call, the Great Sage ascended; Joyful with a joyful mind, I ferried the Leader of the World. 174. On the far bank of the river, Siddhattha, the Leader of the World; Comforted me there, saying, “You shall attain the Deathless.” 175. Having passed away from that body, I came to the world of devas; I experienced divine bliss, surrounded by nymphs. 176. Seven times I was king of devas, I exercised sovereignty over devas; Three times a Wheel-turning Monarch, I was lord of the earth. 177. Devoted to solitude, wise and well-restrained; I bear my final body, in the Dispensation of the Perfectly Enlightened One. 178. Ninety-four aeons ago, I ferried that best of men; I do not know a bad destination, this is the fruit of that ferrying. 179. The four analytical knowledges, and the eight liberations; The six supernormal powers realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. 180. The golden-hued Perfectly Enlightened One, walking in the marketplace; Vipassī, the chief of caravans, the best of men, the leader. 181. The tamer of the untamed, the steadfast one, the great speaker, the greatly wise; Seeing him, with a clear and joyful mind, I made a single añjali (reverent gesture). 182. Ninety-one aeons ago, when I made that añjali; I do not know a bad destination, this is the fruit of the añjali. 183. The four analytical knowledges, and the eight liberations; The six supernormal powers realized, the Buddha's teaching has been done. 184. In the city of Bandhumatī, I was a merchant then; With that I supported my family, I planted abundance of seeds. 185. To Vipassī, the Great Seer, proceeding on the road; One linen cloth was given by me, for the good of the Teacher. 186. In the ninety-first eon, that linen cloth I gave then; I have not known suffering, this is the fruit of the gift of linen. 187. In the seventeenth eon from this, one king with Sindh horses; Endowed with seven jewels, was sovereign over the four continents. 188.
