May you, Vaḍḍha, in this world, never have craving. May you, my son, again and again, not be a partaker of suffering. Indeed, Vaḍḍha, the sages live happily, without craving, with doubts cut off, cooled, having attained self-control, free from defilements. That path, followed by the sages, for the attainment of insight, for the ending of suffering, you, Vaḍḍha, should cultivate. You speak with confidence, these words, my mother. I believe, indeed, dear mother, that craving does not exist for you. Whatever formations, Vaḍḍha, be they low, high, or middling, even a tiny bit, even an atom's worth, craving does not exist for me. All my defilements are destroyed, for me, diligent and meditating. The three knowledges are attained, the Buddha's teaching has been done. Truly, my mother, a noble goad, she has showered upon me. Verses connected with the highest goal, just like a compassionate one. Having heard her words, the instruction of my mother, I experienced a sense of urgency for the Dhamma, for the attainment of security from bondage. So I, with mind intent on exertion, diligent day and night, being urged by my mother, touched the supreme peace.
