The Chapter of Eights 1. The Verses of the Elder Sīsūpacālā 196. A nun endowed with virtue, well-restrained in her senses; May she attain the peaceful state, the unadulterated essence. 197. The Tāvatiṃsa and Yāma gods, and also the Tusita deities; The Nimmānaratī gods, and the gods who rule over others; Direct your mind there, where you dwelt before. 198. From time to time, existence after existence, held fast by self-identity; Unable to transcend self-identity, they wander through birth and death. 200. All the world is ablaze, all the world is aflame; All the world is burning, all the world is trembling. 201. The unshaken, the incomparable, not frequented by ordinary folk; The Buddha taught this Dhamma, in it my mind delights. 202. Having heard his words, I dwelt delighting in the teaching; The three knowledges are attained, the Buddha's teaching is done. 203. Delight is destroyed everywhere, the mass of darkness is shattered; Know this, Evil One, you are struck down, Ender. ...The Elder Sīsūpacālā. The Chapter of Eights is finished.
