As the body was burning, Being consumed by fire, Neither ash was perceived, Nor soot. Then the Blessed One, having understood this matter, on that occasion uttered this inspired utterance: The body was broken, Perception ceased, All feelings became cool, Formations subsided, Consciousness came to an end. The ninth. 10. The Second Dabba Sutta Thus have I heard: On one occasion the Blessed One was staying at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: "Bhikkhus!" "Venerable Sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, as the body of Dabba the Mallian, Having risen into the air, Sat cross-legged in the sky, in space, Having entered the fire element, Having emerged, having attained final Nibbāna, Was burning, being consumed by fire, Neither ash was perceived, nor soot. Just as, bhikkhus, when ghee or oil Is burning, being consumed by fire, Neither ash is perceived, nor soot; Even so, bhikkhus, as the body of Dabba the Mallian, Having risen into the air, Sat cross-legged in the sky, in space, Having entered the fire element, Having emerged, having attained final Nibbāna, Was burning, being consumed by fire, Neither ash was perceived, nor soot." Then the Blessed One, having understood this matter, on that occasion uttered this inspired utterance: Just as a fire, Struck by an iron hammer, Burning, gradually subsiding, Its destination is not known. So for those rightly liberated, Who have crossed the flood of sensual bonds, There is no destination to be pointed out, For those who have attained unmoving bliss. The tenth. The Chapter on Pāṭaligāmiya, the eighth. Its summary: Four on Nibbāna were spoken, Cunda, Pāṭaligāmiya, Dvidhāpatha and Visākhā, With Dabba, these are ten. Summary of the chapters in the Udāna: This first chapter, excellent enlightenment, this chapter... The second, Mucalinda; The excellent Nandaka chapter is indeed the third, and the excellent Meghi chapter is the fourth.
