Do not follow ignoble conduct, do not live in heedlessness; Do not follow wrong views, do not be one who increases the world. Arise, do not be heedless, practice good conduct in the Dhamma; One who practices Dhamma sleeps happily, in this world and in the next. Practice good conduct in the Dhamma, do not practice ill conduct; One who practices Dhamma sleeps happily, in this world and in the next. As one would see a bubble, as one would see a mirage; Looking upon the world in this way, the King of Death does not see him. Come, look at this world, like a king's decorated chariot; Where fools sink down, for the knowing, there is no attachment. Whoever, having been heedless before, is not heedless afterwards, He illuminates this world, like the moon freed from clouds. Whose evil deed done, is covered by skillfulness, He illuminates this world, like the moon freed from clouds. This world is blind, few here see clearly; Like a bird escaped from a net, few go to heaven. Swans go on the path of the sun, they go through the air by psychic power; The wise are led out of the world, having conquered Māra and his host. For one who transgresses one principle, a person who speaks falsely, Who disregards the other world, there is no evil he would not do. The stingy indeed do not go to the world of devas, fools certainly do not praise giving; But the wise one, approving of giving, by that very reason is happy in the other world. Than sole sovereignty over the earth, or going to heaven, Or lordship over all worlds, the fruit of stream-entry is superior.
