Chapter on Evil 116. Hasten towards good, restrain the mind from evil; For to him who is slow in doing good, the mind delights in evil. 117. If a person does evil, let him not do it again and again; Let him not set his mind on it. Painful is the accumulation of evil. 118. If a person does good, let him do it again and again; Let him set his mind on it. Happy is the accumulation of good. 119. Even an evil person sees good, as long as his evil has not ripened. But when his evil ripens, then the evil person sees evil. 120. Even a good person sees evil, as long as his good has not ripened. But when his good ripens, then the good person sees good. 121. Do not despise evil, thinking "It will not come to me." By the falling of water drops, even a water pot is filled. The fool fills himself with evil, gathering it little by little. 122. As a merchant with little escort and great wealth avoids a dangerous road, and as one who desires to live avoids poison, so should one avoid evil deeds. 124. If there is no wound on the hand, one can carry poison with the hand. Poison does not affect one who has no wound. There is no evil for one who does not do it. 125. Whoever offends an innocent person, a pure and blameless person, that evil returns to the fool himself, like fine dust thrown against the wind. 126. Some are born in a womb, evil-doers go to hell. The good-doers go to heaven, the undefiled attain Nibbāna. 127. Not in the sky, not in the middle of the ocean, nor by entering a mountain cave, is there a place found. That place on earth, where standing, one might be freed from evil deeds. 128. Not in the sky, not in the midst of the ocean, not having entered a mountain cave; There is not found that place on earth, where one standing, would not be overcome by death. The Chapter on Evil, the ninth, is finished.
