4. The Chapter on the Noble Path 1. The Discourse on the Noble Path "Monks, I will teach you the noble path and the ignoble path. Listen to it... And what, monks, is the ignoble path? Taking life... wrong view. This, monks, is called the ignoble path. And what, monks, is the noble path? Abstaining from taking life... right view. This, monks, is called the noble path." First. 2. The Discourse on the Dark Path "Monks, I will teach you the dark path and the bright path. Listen to it... And what, monks, is the dark path? Taking life... wrong view. This, monks, is called the dark path. And what, monks, is the bright path? Abstaining from taking life... right view. This, monks, is called the bright path." Second. 3. The Discourse on the True Dhamma "Monks, I will teach you the true Dhamma and the untrue Dhamma. Listen to it... And what, monks, is the untrue Dhamma? Taking life... wrong view. This, monks, is called the untrue Dhamma. And what, monks, is the true Dhamma? Abstaining from taking life... right view. This, monks, is called the true Dhamma." Third. 4. The Discourse on the Qualities of a Good Person "Monks, I will teach you the qualities of a good person and the qualities of a bad person. Listen to it... And what, monks, are the qualities of a bad person? Taking life... wrong view. This, monks, is called the qualities of a bad person. And what, monks, are the qualities of a good person? Abstaining from taking life... right view. This, monks, is called the qualities of a good person." Fourth. 5. The Discourse on the Dhamma to be Developed "Monks, I will teach you the Dhamma to be developed and the Dhamma not to be developed. Listen to it... And what, monks, is the Dhamma not to be developed? Taking life... wrong view. This, monks, is called the Dhamma not to be developed." the dhamma to be produced. “And what, bhikkhus, is the dhamma to be produced? Abstention from taking life… right view— this, bhikkhus, is called the dhamma to be produced.” The fifth. 6. Discourse on the Dhamma to be Practiced 194. “I will teach you, bhikkhus, the dhamma to be practiced and the dhamma not to be practiced. Listen to that… And what, bhikkhus, is the dhamma not to be practiced? Taking life… wrong view— this, bhikkhus, is called the dhamma not to be practiced. “And what, bhikkhus, is the dhamma to be practiced? Taking life… wrong view— this, bhikkhus, is called the dhamma not to be remembered. “And what, bhikkhus, is the dhamma to be remembered? Abstention from taking life… abstinence... ...right view— this is called, monks, the quality to be remembered. The Ninth. 10. The Discourse on What is to be Realized Monks, I will teach you the quality to be realized and the quality not to be realized. Listen to that... ...And what, monks, is the quality not to be realized?
