The Chapter on Security 1. The Sutta on Security "‘Security, security,’ friend, is said. To what extent, friend, has security been spoken of by the Blessed One?" "Here, friend, a monk, quite secluded from sensual pleasures... enters and dwells in the first jhāna. To this extent, friend, security has been spoken of by the Blessed One by way of a simile... "Furthermore, friend, a monk, having entirely transcended the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, enters and dwells in the cessation of perception and feeling, and having seen with wisdom, his taints are destroyed. The Discourse on the Incapable 62. “Monks, without abandoning nine things, one is incapable of realizing arahantship. Which nine? Lust, hatred, delusion, anger, resentment, denigration, domineering, envy, stinginess – Monks, without abandoning these nine things, one is incapable of realizing arahantship. “Monks, having abandoned nine things, one is capable of realizing arahantship. Which nine? Lust, hatred, delusion, anger, resentment, denigration, domineering, envy, stinginess – Monks, having abandoned these nine things, one is capable of realizing arahantship.” The eleventh.
