A foolish bhikkhu, bhikkhus, falls away, he does not become established in the True Dhamma. A bhikkhu endowed with these five qualities, bhikkhus, falls away, he does not become established in the True Dhamma. A bhikkhu endowed with five qualities, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. Which five? A faithful bhikkhu, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. A bhikkhu with a sense of shame, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. A bhikkhu with moral dread, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. An energetic bhikkhu, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. A wise bhikkhu, bhikkhus, does not fall away, he becomes established in the True Dhamma. "Monks, a bhikkhu endowed with five qualities is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Which five? Monks, a bhikkhu who is faithless is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is shameless is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is without moral dread is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is lazy is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is unwise is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu endowed with these five qualities is disrespectful, unsubmissive, falls away, and does not become established in the True Dhamma. "Monks, a bhikkhu endowed with five qualities is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Which five? Monks, a bhikkhu who is faithful is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is conscientious is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who has moral dread is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is energetic is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu who is wise is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma. Monks, a bhikkhu endowed with these five qualities is respectful, submissive, does not fall away, and becomes established in the True Dhamma." The Ninth. 10. The Second Discourse on Disrespect. "Monks, a bhikkhu endowed with five qualities is disrespectful, unsubmissive, and incapable of growth, increase, or development in this Dhamma and Discipline. Which five? Monks, a bhikkhu who is faithless is disrespectful, unsubmissive, and incapable of growth, increase... ...to attain abundance. A shameless monk, monks, disrespectful, irreverent, is incapable in this Dhamma and Discipline of attaining growth, increase, and abundance. A reckless monk, monks, disrespectful, irreverent, is incapable in this Dhamma and Discipline of attaining growth, increase, and abundance.
