This, monks, is called the yoke of views. Thus, the yoke of sensual desire, the yoke of becoming, the yoke of views. And how, monks, is the yoke of ignorance? Here, monks, a certain one does not understand as it really is the origin, the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape from the six sense bases. For him, not understanding as it really is the origin, the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape from the six sense bases, that ignorance, that unknowing, concerning the six sense bases, lies latent. This, monks, is called the yoke of ignorance. Therefore, he is called "not secure from the yoke." These, monks, are the four yokes. These, monks, are the four disconnections from yokes. Which four? Disconnection from the yoke of sensual desire, disconnection from the yoke of becoming, disconnection from the yoke of views, disconnection from the yoke of ignorance. And which, monks, is the disconnection from the yoke of sensual desire? Here, monks, a certain one understands as it really is the origin, the passing away, the gratification, the danger, and the escape from sensual desires. Therefore, he is called 'secure from yokes'. These, bhikkhus, are the four disengagements. Bound by the yoke of sensual desire, and by the yoke of existence, both; Bound by the yoke of views, led by ignorance. Beings go on in transmigration, bound for birth and death; But those who fully understand sensual desires, and the yoke of existence entirely. Having uprooted the yoke of views, and ignoran and dispelling it; Detached from all yokes, they indeed are sages who have gone beyond yokes. The tenth. The Bhaṇḍagāma Chapter, the first.
